Will Grigg said Brentford needed a second goal to make sure of their Sky Bet League One win against Port Vale.
The Bees won 2-0 at Griffin Park yesterday and Will came off the bench to score the second.
After an even start Brentford took control against Vale and went ahead when Marcello Trotta smashed in from distance.
There were numerous chances, many superbly saved by Vale goalkeeper Chris Neal, but Brentford couldn’t make it safe.
Will came on late in the second half and finished off a move which started with Alan McCormack winning the ball in the right back area and ended with a cross from the left wing by Jake Bidwell that the striker controlled and put in.
“We were causing damage,” said Will, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We were creating chances and doing well but needed the second goal to make sure.
“You have seen games where the other team have nicked a goal and we end up with a point.
“We showed good spirit.
“I was pleased to get the goal but it would probably have been four or five but for the goalkeeper.
“It was a great break.
“We defended well and Clayton did well on the wing and it got out to Jake Bidwell.
“He crossed it, I got a touch and put it in.
“We had been playing some good stuff, it was nice to finish it off.
“I knew if I got a nice contact it was in.
“You have to connect well.”
Will praised Vale goalkeeper Chris Neal but said Brentford played well.
He said the visitors tried to make the game scrappy and Brentford had to find a way to win those types of games.
The win was the eighth League One win in a row, the first time a Brentford team had won eight league games in a row in a single season.
They have won 13 of the last 14 in the league and taken 40 points from the last 42.
Will said The Bees had to keep that form going.
“The keeper did really well,” said the striker.
“Marcello Trotta could have had three or four if it wasn’t for him.
“The keeper will get some credit but we got three points.
“It was a good performance.
“They came and tried to make it unpretty.
“it is important we win these scrappy games.
“We did a good job.
“We could have scored two or three in the first half and again in the second half.
“We have been playing well for a few months and we have to keep going.
“We know we battle away but can play as well.
“We are not afraid of the physical side but our quality all over the pitch sets us apart from the other teams in the league.
“We have the overall package and we have to keep it going.
“At the moment we go in to games knowing we will play well and create chances, and then anything can happen.
“If we keep doing it we will beat anyone.”
Will said it was nice to be a part of a successful team.
The Bees have won six in a row since Mark Warburton was named Brentford Manager, replacing Uwe Rösler, who left the role to take over at Wigan Athletic.
Will said very little had changed since the managerial switch.
“We didn’t want too much change but Warbs has put a mark on it,” he said.
“He wants free flowing football, counter-attacking and when we have the ball we have such quality going forward, we can create chances.
“Training has been lively.
“Uwe had his stamp but it hasn’t changed too much.
“We are full of confidence and can’t wait for every game to come.
“It is nice to be part of and we want to keep going.”
Brentford’s next game is a trip to Walsall next Saturday.
Will joined The Bees from Walsall in the summer and said he couldn’t wait to go back.
He told Bees Player he had an eye on marking his return with a goal.
“I can’t wait to go back,” he said.
“I had a great time there and I have a massive respect for the players and staff.
“It will bring back memories but I am a Brentford player.
“I will go for three points and it will be nice to get a goal too.”
