Jake Gallagher’s brace condemned Brentford’s Development Squad to defeat in their pre-season friendly against Welling United at Park View Road.
The hosts took the lead in the dying seconds of the first-half as Gallagher pounced to poke home from close range after Kevin Krans shot came back off Jack Bonham.
The tall-midfielder doubled Welling’s advantage ten minutes into the second-half with a close range finish from a corner.
The Wings started the game brightly looking to use the size and strength of lone striker Kieron St. Aimie, with midfielders breaking off the 25-year-old for whom Welling is his 16th club.
He was at the centre of much of the home side’s build up in the opening stages as Rod Young struck the bar from a tight angle and Jake Gallagher planted a pair of headers straight at Bonham.
Slowly though the Bees began to impress their passing style on the game and made it a much more even contest.
With Tyrell Miller-Rodney, Charlie Adams and Louis Hutton in the midfield The Bees movement began to cause problems for the hosts.
Hutton’s chipped cross was well chested down by Sedi Nigi and Lee Butcher made a smart save from the striker's low shot.
St. Aimie was still proving to be a handful and from his good hold-up play Welling should have taken the lead but Bonham made a fine double save to deny Hutton and Jamie Day, Day smashing the follow up into the side netting from a tight angle.
The tall-striker then saw an ambitious lob from 40 yards sail just over the bar before he missed a golden chance to put the host ahead as he broke The Bees offside trap but his touch to take the ball around Bonham was a heavy one and it allowed Mawson back in to block on the line.
The hosts did eventually take the lead a minute before the break as substitute Kevin Krans’ long-range effort took enough of a deflection to deceive Bonham and Gallagher reacted fastest to tuck home the rebound after it had bounced off The Bees’ keeper.
The Wings could have doubled their advantage in the opening seconds of the second-period as Loui Fazakerley broke from right-back, beat Bonham to a bouncing ball but saw his lofted effort from 30 yards drop just over the bar.
Gallagher added a second goal after 55 minutes as Jamal Fyfield headed a deep corner back across goal and The Wings skipper was given time on the edge of the six yard box to pick his spot.
Krans bent a shot straight into the arms of Bonham and Calvet made a vital block to deny Fazakerley as broke into the box.
At the other end Butcher made a fine block to deny Greene from close range and then Miji went down under the attention of Zach Fagan but the referee was not interested in The Bees’ protests.
Zain Westbrooke show over from the edge of the box after good work by Adams and Jermaine Udumaga pulled a shot wide of the post.
The Bees were creating chances but it was Welling who looked the more likely to score the games third goal.
Bonham made a fine sprawling save to turn Ose Abensee’s shot round the post before Barney Williams curled an effort just over the bar from 25 yards.
The final few minutes petered out meaning successive defeats for Jon De Souza's side this week.
