Jake Bidwell said Brentford will play against Doncaster Rovers next week in the only way they know how, going for the win.
The Bees came from behind to draw their penultimate game 1-1 with Hartlepool United yesterday – Marcello Trotta levelling up an early Hartlepool goal.
The point leaves Brentford third in npower League One.
If they beat Doncaster at Griffin Park next Saturday in the final game of the season they will be promoted.
Doncaster are currently second, two points ahead of The Bees, and no other team can deny Brentford if they win.
“I think we’d have definitely taken this position at the start of the season,” said Jake, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We would have liked to have won the game today.
“In terms of how we play, it doesn’t make that much difference.
“We go in to every game looking to attack, looking to score goals, looking to win the game.
“That is what we have to do on Saturday.”
Jake said Brentford would prepare as normal and Manager Uwe Rösler would set up the team to win the game.
He said it was important for Brentford’s players to relax and play as they can.
“We approach every game in that way,” said the defender.
“The stakes will be higher but it will be no different to any other game.
“The gaffer will set us up as he sees fit and we will go out look to win the game.
“We have to take it as a normal league game.
“We have to relax, if you don’t, that is when you start making mistakes.
“We have to play our game.”
Jake said Brentford did not play as well as they would like against Hartlepool and said the crazy midweek draw with Sheffield United may have been a factor.
The Bees ended with nine men in that 2-2 draw, scoring a late equaliser on an emotional and draining night in South Yorkshire.
Hartlepool started well in yesterday’s match and deserved their lead but Brentford came back strong and had the better of the final hour.
They earned a share of the spoils with Marcello Trotta’s goal.
“I don’t think there were nerves today,” said Jake.
“We didn’t play as we would like.
“We started slow and I think Tuesday night could have been a factor.
“We had to go to Sheffield United on Tuesday and we finished with nine, they didn’t have a game in midweek.
“That could have been a factor.
“There was a lot of travelling but when you are a footballer that is part of the job.
“We have showed our fighting spirit, come back in to the game, got a point.
“I can’t praise the lads enough.”
Jake said the strength in depth in the Brentford squad was a major factor in their success.
Marcello Trotta has not scored in three consecutive away games after a spell where he was mostly used as a substitute and forward Farid El Alagui made his return against Hartlepool.
The striker had not played a First Team game since seriously injuring his knee in October but came on as a late substitute.
“I can’t emphasise enough that this team just doesn’t know when to lie down,” said Jake.
“I am sure we will take that in to next week.
“The strength in depth of the squad can be seen.
“Everyone has played a part this year and it was good to see Farid back today.
“We will have a hero again next week.”
One area The Bees are short is in central defence.
Tony Craig was suspended for the game after he was sent off for violent conduct against Sheffield United and Brentford’s appeal of the decision was turned down.
Club Captain Kevin O’Connor was pressed in to service in the centre of defence and Jake said he did well.
“Tony has been ever-present in the league,” said the left back.
“For me, as a youngster playing next to him, he has helped me a lot.
“Kevin has played nearly 500 games, it’s not a problem for Kev, he can play anywhere.
“He went about his job well today.”
Jake praised Brentford’s fans for the way they supported the team at Hartlepool.
More than 500 made the trip despite the 5.20 kick off time affecting travel plans.
“The fans have been great all year,” said Jake.
“They pulled us through again today.
“I am sure Griffin Park will be rocking next week.”
