Luke Norris said Brentford’s Development Squad players knew they should have beaten Ipswich Town.
The Bees were held to a 2-2 draw by the Championship side at Griffin Park despite leading twice.
The visitors scored in the last seconds of the first half and then in stoppage time at the end of the match to take a share of the spoils.
Luke, speaking to Bees Player after the final whistle, said Brentford should have managed the game better.
“A few of the boys have their chins on the floor,” said Luke.
“We know we should have won the game.
“But that’s football.
“We have to learn to grind out results and win games.
“We had more of the ball than them.
“We should have played the game in their half and managed it better.
“We are disappointed about the goal.
“Jake Reeves was fouled; they won the ball from it and scored.
“It was a great strike but we can’t concede goals in the last minute.”
Luke grabbed his second goal of the season when he headed in a Stuart Dallas cross.
He had started on the bench and said he came on at half time, to replace Jimmy Spencer, with a point to prove.
“I am happy with the goal,” he said.
“I was upset to be on the bench, I felt I had been doing well recently.
“I had a bit of a point to prove and I got my goal.
“I am happy with my performance.
“Stuart did really well to get the ball across.
“I had to finish it, that’s my job.”
Luke said the Development Squad were “flying” at the moment and the collective improvement would help them all individually.
If The Bees had held on, they would have made it five Under-21 Professional Development League Two South wins in a row.
“We are doing well and winning games,” said Luke.
“We’d be top with a game in hand if we’d won that game.
“That would reflect really well on us as a group and help us to push in to the First Team.
“We need to learn how to win games.
“We are flying at the moment as a group.
“As a Club we are competing well with the teams in this league.
“That’s really good for Brentford as a League One club.”
Luke made his second appearance for Brentford’s First Team against Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the 2011/12 season.
He said an illness had affected his progress but he was fit now and wanted to force his way back in.
“I did alright towards the end of last season but had an illness over the summer that set me back,” he explained.
“It put me down the pecking order.
“I feel fit now, this is probably the longest I have ever been fit.
“I feel sharp and feel I can do a job.
“I saw Paul Hayes at the weekend score two goals [in an npower League One game against Hartlepool United] from a total distance of around ten yards.
“I feel I am a similar player.
“I know if I can get a chance in the First Team, the boys will create chances, we see it every day, and hopefully I can score.”
