Bradley Wright-Phillips said Brentford handled the pressure of needing to win their npower League One game against Crewe Alexandra very well.
Manager Uwe Rösler said The Bees would need three points to have any chance to winning automatic promotion from League One.
Bradley said the pressure was cranked up by teams around them slipping up on Tuesday night.
Leaders Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United and Swindon Town, who are fifth and sixth in the table, all lost on Tuesday and Bradley said those results gave The Bees a boost but also ramped up the pressure.
He said the players did everything asked of them and played well.
“Most games at this stage of the season are a must-win, we knew we had to win,” said Bradley.
“We knew it was a big game.
“The top teams losing yesterday put a bit more pressure on but the boys handled it well.
“I shared a room in the hotel with Shaleum Logan; he was looking at the results on his phone.
“We knew what we had to do.
“It’s harder when you play a day later.
“It’s a bit difficult.
“You see the teams lose and it gets you even more up for the game but it does put pressure on when you know you have to do everything right.
“We handled it well.
“We did everything the gaffer asked for.
“We worked hard, we played well.
“We adapted to the conditions, the pitch was very bobbly but we handled it well.”
Bradley scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win, finishing off a flowing move.
Jonathan Douglas picked the ball up in midfield and found Adam Forshaw, his first time ball to Clayton Donaldson was flicked on through his legs to meet the run of Shaleum Logan, the full back delivered his cross on the run first time to the near post where Bradley met it and powered a header in to the bottom corner.
The goal was Bradley’s second of his loan spell with Brentford and he said he was after more.
“It was a good goal,” said the striker.
“I trusted Shay to get the ball in early.
“I am not the greatest in the air but I tried to get across the front man, get the peanut on it and it went in.
“He was running quickly and I didn’t think he could get it to the back post.
“I took a gamble going to the near and it was a great ball.
“I want to score all the time, I’m not happy with my goal return but I’m happy with my performances and the gaffer is happy with me.
“If I can get some more goals, and more important goals, I will be happy with that.”
Brentford dominated the first half without getting the second goal and had to wait until the 83rd minute to seal the game.
Marcello Trotta scored the second goal with an acrobatic volley from a Jonathan Douglas chip.
Bradley said the players carried out the instructions of Manager Uwe Rösler and if they always do that they won’t go far wrong.
“We needed the second goal,” continued the striker.
“We had a few chances and could have put them away but credit to Marcello Trotta, he has come on a scored a Worldy.
“It was a great goal.
“I don’t think nerves come in to it.
“The Manager is specific about what he wants us to do.
“You take it on to the pitch with you and don’t have a chance to think.
“If we do what he says we will bring the three points home.”
Brentford have four games remaining, the first of which is against Portsmouth at Griffin Park on Saturday.
The visitors are in the relegation zone and Brentford know they will win npower League One if they can win their four remaining games.
“This is a game we think we can win, no disrespect to Portsmouth,” said Bradley.
“We have to do what we get told to do.
“Go out there, work hard and win.
“I like it at Griffin Park, it will be good to be back.”
