Brentford Manager Mark Warburton said his players’ first focus was to put on a good performance in their final game of the Sky Bet League One season against Stevenage.
The Bees bring the curtain down on their 2013/14 season tomorrow, when Stevenage come to Griffin Park.
Brentford have already clinched promotion from League One while Stevenage have been relegated.
But Mark, speaking to Bees Player, said his side would not switch off.
He was angered by a 4-1 defeat to Colchester United last week and said his players would respond.
Every ticket available for Brentford fans has been sold and there will be a party atmosphere inside Griffin Park with The Bees set to receive medals and do a lap of honour after the match.
But Mark said Stevenage will want to spoil the party and his players had to do their job.
“I wasn’t in the best of moods last Saturday,” said the Brentford Manager.
“The players have set outstandingly high standards this season, they know it and the staff know it.
“Last week wasn’t good enough by their own standards.
“No-one is more disappointed than the players.
“They are frustrated and angry, words were exchanged and that was important.
“If we tolerate below par performances we are finished.
“I am looking for a positive reaction this week.
“The players have been first class in training, they have worked hard.
“We are playing Stevenage but it is irrelevant that we are up and they are down.
“There are Stevenage players fighting for contracts and for their futures.
“We have 11,000 plus fans and we have to put on a good performance.
“We have to give people value for money and hope they enjoy their day.
“Stevenage will look to spoil the party.
“We have achieved our main goal, the players deserve the plaudits, deserve their medals, deserve the lap of honour.
“A lot of sacrifices are made during a season, the players can salute their families and I am delighted for the players and the supporters.
“We have to do a job.
“At 5pm we can enjoy ourselves, between 3pm and 5pm our only focus is a good performance and a good result.”
Mark said Brentford’s players will use the lap of honour to thank the supporters for their backing in 2013/14.
“The players and supporters can have the moment at 5pm,” he said.
“There will be a presentation on the pitch, the players will get medals.
“They will get a great reception and then the players can do a lap of honour.
“It is important for the players to thank the fans for their backing home and away.
“The fans have followed us and supported us vocally, it is not cheap and we know that.
“We will need them next year when we go to the next level.”
Mark said Stevenage would be a physically strong and fit team and The Bees had to do what they do well to get the win.
“Stevenage will pose a formidable test,” he said.
“They are physically strong; they are athletic and keep going for 90 minutes.
“They have clever players and good pace.
“We have to do what we do well, as I have said all season.
“We have to recognise what we do well and implement it.
“If we do that we will be OK.”
There is also set to be a second celebration at Griffin Park on Saturday.
Club Captain Kevin O’Connor is set to become only the fourth player in history to play 500 games for Brentford.
Mark praised the “outstanding” achievement of playing 500 games for one club but said Kevin would be the first person to look to mark it with a win and good performance.
“Kevin would be the first to say that Saturday is about us putting in a performance and getting three points,” said the Brentford boss.
“He will say that, he is the ultimate professional.
“That is what the players will want as well.
“Kevin’s achievement is outstanding, it is magnificent.
“I hope he gets a chance to recognise that on Saturday but he will want to make sure we do the job first.”
Mark added that once the curtain came down on 2013/14, there was a lot to do.
“There is a lot of work to do,” he said.
“We focus on the game against Stevenage, picking the right team.
“There is also a look at the end-of-season stuff you have to do, the player meetings, and preparing for them.
“We look at players for next season, pre-season friendlies, the training schedule.
“We will enjoy the weekend, the Player of the Year Ball, but there is a lot of work to be done in the next four to six weeks.”
