Tom Adeyemi said Brentford did “more than enough” to have taken three points against Bury on Saturday.
The Bees were held to a 2-2 draw at Griffin Park as Bury twice came from behind to take a share of the spoils.
The visitors defended almost exclusively before Harry Forrester headed The Bees in front and then again after the teams exchanged three goals in 11 minutes.
Bury equalised but Marcello Trotta scored two minutes later before the visitors scored again to make it 2-2.
Tom, speaking to The Bees Player Show after the match, said lapses cost The Bees and Manager Uwe Rösler had told the players afterwards to make sure they keep looking to attack rather than sitting back on a lead.
“We felt we did more than enough to win the game and a couple of lapses have cost us,” said Tom.
“We knew it would be a game where they sat deep and we would get a lot of the ball.
“We knew it would be hard to break them down.
“That proved to be the case, we had chances and it was all about being patient.
“The Manager was pleased with the way we played and the way we kept the ball but not with the result
“We worked really hard to get in front and then didn’t continue to do what we had done before.
“His message to us was once we get in front we have to keep going and show no mercy.”
Harry Forrester also spoke to The Bees Player Show and said to be pegged back twice was disappointing.
“The boys are gutted,” said Harry.
“We felt we pushed enough to get the three points but there was some sloppy play at the back and that cost us.
“We knew they would sit back and we would have to keep knocking on the door.
“To go ahead twice and only get a point, the boys are disappointed.
“The disappointing thing was to go ahead twice and be pegged back.
“Once you have done it once that should be enough for it not to happen again.
“We have to stop conceding goals and that is a team thing.
“It starts from the front; we have to do it collectively.”
Harry’s goal came when he headed in a Shaleum Logan cross.
It was his tenth goal of the season.
“It was a great ball by Shay to the back stick,” said Harry.
“I thought the defender had it but he just missed it and I had to concentrate on getting it on target.
“I had a chat with the gaffer at the start of the season.
“Ten goals was a landmark I wanted to hit and I hit it today.
“I wish I had played better but it was good to get to that.”
Tom has suffered with injuries in recent months but completed his second 90 minutes in consecutive weeks after playing the full match against Yeovil Town following a substitute appearance in the FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round tie against Chelsea.
“I feel really good,” said Tom.
“I feel like I am back to match fitness.
“I feel I am 100 per cent.
“I had some good match time in the cup tie and now two 90 minutes against Yeovil and Bury.”
The Bees slipped to sixth in the npower League One table after their fourth game without a win.
They are, however, only five points off the top with a game in hand on three of the teams above them and have lost just two of their last 17 league games.
Brentford welcome Stevenage to Griffin Park tomorrow night, Tuesday February 12, for their next match.
“There is a long way to go and there will be twists and turns,” said Harry.
“There are a lot of games to play before the end and a lot of points will be picked up.
“We have to get back to winning ways and hopefully that can start on Tuesday.
“It is a very big game.
“This will rally us; we will now go and look at how we win that game.”
Tom added: “By no means is everything lost, we are still right in the mix.
“We could have done with three points today but there is plenty to play for.
“Stevenage are a very physical side.
“We might not have so much possession.
“We have to be ready for that.
“We won’t let our heads drop, confidence is important for results.
“If we can go on a run like we did a few months ago, we will be right up there.”
