Adam Forshaw said Brentford’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Stevenage on Tuesday night made the rest of the evening more comfortable.
The Bees ended a run of five games without a win in all competitions with the win on Tuesday night.
Tom Adeyemi opened the scoring at the end of the first half and Marcello Trotta added a second late on.
Adam Forshaw, speaking to The Bees Player Show after the match, said Stevenage made it hard for Brentford but his team got through it.
“We knew they would come here and make it hard for us,” said the midfield man.
“We had to keep going.
“We didn’t play our best in the first half but when we got the goal we looked a lot more comfortable than we had done.
Brentford opened the scoring when Tom Adeyemi picked up a half cleared corner, cut inside and smashed home.
“I know Tom can do that,” said Adam.
“He does it all the time in training.
“The whole team worked their socks off, we deserved it.”
The second was scored by substitute Marcello Trotta, who also spoke to The Bees Player Show after the match.
Marcello exchanged passes with fellow replacement Sam Saunders and curled the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.
Marcello said Manager Uwe Rösler had told him to go on and make an impact.
“When we do finishing in training we always try to do our best,” said the striker.
“It was a good set-up from Sam Saunders and a good finish.
“The Manager gave me instructions about what he wanted me to do.
“He wants his subs to make an impact and help the team.
“I thought I did quite well.”
Stevenage largely came to Griffin Park to defend and had only one effort on target all night.
The game was similar to the one against Bury on Saturday.
The Greater Manchester side barely left their half when the game was level but Brentford backed off after taking the lead twice and Bury scored two goals to earn a point.
Adam said Manager Uwe Rösler had told the players to keep pushing forward if they got ahead against Stevenage.
“The Bury game on Saturday, we took the lead twice and went too safe,” said Adam.
“We backed off.
“The gaffer said tonight that if we get a goal to keep doing what we had been doing and don’t change anything.
“We got a goal at a good time in the first half.
“We would have liked the second to come earlier but it came in the end, we believed it would, and we deserved it.
“We are a young team, we are all learning, even the older lads.
“We showed we were really professional and saw it out well.”
The Bees went in to the fixture having not won in five in all competitions, taking two points from their last four npower League One matches and seven from their last seven.
Marcello said confidence never wavered and The Bees would try to win every game between now and April 27 and see where it took them.
“We were playing well,” said the striker.
“After we go 1-0 up we have to keep going, play our normal game and get the second one.
“We remain always positive.
“It’s good as a team to stay positive, we have to stick together, do our best and try to win our next game.
“We are looking at it game by game.
“We have to have confidence; there are lots of games to go.
“We will do our best and see where we are.”
Brentford’s next match is an FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round Replay against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Bees earned the tie with a 2-2 draw at Griffin Park in the first match – after taking the lead twice – and Marcello said it would be a special day.
“It is a special game for us and for Brentford Football Club,” he said.
“We are all looking forward to it.
“It will be a hard game; we have to enjoy it and try to do our best.”
Adam added: “We definitely fancy our chances, stranger things have happened.
“We have shown here we maybe should have won.
“We should enjoy days like that, if we get something we will be very happy.
“This sort of game lets you know where you are at.
“You want to test yourself, see if you can compete.
“There is no pressure on us, it is all on them.”
