Brentford head coach Thomas Frank cut a frustrated figure following the Bees’ 1-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday.

Idrissa Gueye struck the decisive blow on the hour mark, giving his side the lead with their only shot on target.

Ivan Toney was denied by England team-mate Jordan Pickford at the start of the second half as the Bees also struggled to create clear-cut chances during a close game at Goodison Park.

“It was a tight game. A little bit of a boring game, honestly,” said Frank.

“There was not too much in it and it probably should have been a draw.

“We had the biggest chance to Ivan at 0-0.

“We knew they are very good at set-pieces and we kept them on a minimum there – actually no chances.

“On the day, we didn’t have enough quality to create enough decisive situations. Unfortunately, we lost a tight game.”

Frank added: “In general, we defended well throughout the game. It’s just irritating in a game like this we didn’t get a point and continue our momentum. They took the one moment they had.”
