Bryan Mbeumo, who turns 23 on the day of our opening game against Leicester City, joined us at Jersey Road to discuss the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The forward has just announced his availability for selection by Cameroon on the international stage.

“For me, it was a tough decision,” said Bryan. “My dad is Cameroonian, and I remember when I was very young, I used to watch the African Cup of Nations [AFCON] with him. I said I wanted to play with them one day.

“When I grew up, I got called up to France and I was very happy. I feel very French but the Cameroon team was on me as well, I’ve been there twice now and I feel very good there. My family enjoy being there, too.

“To be between these two nations, it means a lot to me. It’s a very proud moment for my family. It’s my dream to play at the World Cup, that would be very good, but if I won a trophy like the AFCON, I would be very happy.”

Having netted four goals in pre-season, Bryan is ready to hit the ground running on Sunday afternoon.

“I’m always excited to start a new season, get new games, especially in the Premier League. I can’t wait to play.

“We’re feeling very relaxed, as always, a lot of jokes and a lot of smiles. I think everybody is happy to go again and enjoy their time on the pitch.

“I think it’s very important [to score in pre-season] and it’s very good for my confidence. Last year, I had some ups and downs, but I hope this season can be good for me from the start.”
