Marcello Trotta described Brentford’s 2-0 npower League One victory against Crewe Alexandra as “a very important win”.
The Bees ended a run of four away games without victory with the win in Cheshire.
Bradley Wright-Phillips headed The Bees in front and Marcello scored the second late on.
Brentford climbed to third in League One with the win, four points behind leaders Doncaster Rovers and two behind AFC Bournemouth, who are second.
The Bees, who have four fixtures remaining, have a game in hand on both teams.
“It was a very important win for us,” said Marcello, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We have climbed the table and put pressure on those above us.
“It is good for us.
“We needed to win as many of our last five games as we could.
“This will give us a lift.
“We haven’t been fortunate away from home in recent games.
“We have played well but not found the net.
“That has given us trouble.
“Today we played really well and Bradley’s goal gave us the push we needed.
“The first goal helped but we kept going and looked for the second one.”
The Bees took advantage of many of their npower League One promotion rivals losing on Tuesday night to make up ground on the other teams at the top of the table.
Leaders Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United and Swindon Town, who are fifth and sixth in the table, all lost on Tuesday and Marcello said gave The Bees a lift.
But he added Brentford had to win to take real advantage.
“At the end of the night, we saw the results and knew it was good for us,” said Marcello.
“We knew we had to win tonight to get close to the top.
“Other teams losing will give you a boost but we have to win our games and see what happens.
“If we win our games we will be promoted.”
Brentford had numerous chances in the first half but only scored once.
Harlee Dean hit the crossbar and multiple shots were blocked or scrambled away.
The Bees kept pushing after the break and got the second with seven minutes remaining.
Jonathan Douglas chipped a ball in to the box and Marcello swivelled and volleyed with a scissor motion in to the back of the net.
It was his first goal since mid-February and he said it would help him for the final four games.
“We did well in the second half,” he said.
“We stuck together and took the win home.
“My goal was instinctive.
“I saw the chance, hit it and it went in.
“It will give me more confidence.
“I always remain positive but I have not scored for a little while.
“It will help me, and the team.
“It’s not easy but you have to stay calm when the chance comes.”
Brentford have four games left and know four wins will give them the npower League One title.
Marcello said it was important not to look too far ahead.
“It is there for us,” he said.
“We will take one game at a time and see where we are at the end of it.”
