Brentford B’s Val Adedokun was left a little frustrated following the 1-1 draw with Jong PSV on Wednesday. The Irish youngster and his teammates led 1-0 going into the final seven minutes of the game but the Dutch side pulled a goal back to level late on.
Reflecting on the result, the defender said: “We’re disappointed because, although we didn’t have a lot of the ball, we were very solid at the back throughout the whole game. We had good defensive shape, playing the ball out, and defending well as a team. We gave away a sloppy free-kick and that led to the goal so we’re disappointed.
“In the first half there were good moments as we were keeping the ball and getting forward. They were pressing and we were getting out of the press at times. Against a team like that there are positives that you can take in terms of our defensive shape, we were very organised and compact, and they couldn’t really break us down.”

Discussing the test against the Dutch side, who the young Bees met towards the end of last season, Val says both games have provided difficult challenges for the group.
He continued: “They’re a very good opposition, a top team that play in the Dutch division. They keep the ball very well and have good technical players who work hard so it’s a good way to test ourselves. The fact we’re disappointed just shows where we are at the minute.
“When you go up the levels you’re not going to have the ball every single game so there are different ways to play, you have to manage the game in a different ways. I thought we did that well today, but you can’t give away any sloppy goals. Everyone has to stay concentrated for 90 minutes and that’s for defenders, midfielders and attackers. It only takes one man to slip up and then against top opposition like they were, they will find the gaps and score."
