Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said his team’s pre-season form would count for nothing at 3pm tomorrow.
The Bees have beaten Premier League Cardiff City and Championship Millwall in the last few weeks and had the better of a clash with Scottish Premier League Champions Celtic.
But Uwe said it would be irrelevant when his team take on Port Vale in the first match of their Sky Bet League One season at 3pm tomorrow, Saturday August 3.
“We want to peak on Saturday,” said Uwe.
“That is what we have worked towards.
“We had a very good pre-season.
“Everyone is fit and in good spirits but that counts for nothing.
“We are going to a very difficult place.
“If you had asked me I would not want to face a newly-promoted team on the first day of the season away from home.
“It is a massive game for us.
“We will see if the hard work has paid off.”
Uwe has added nine new players to his squad this season and the Brentford Manager told Bees Player he would pick his team based on form.
He said the group had an aim to win promotion to The Championship and there would naturally be changes to his team as the season moved on.
“Performances will decide who plays,” said the Brentford boss.
“In The Championship and Premier League you have a squad of 24 or 25 players.
“We have 21 outfield players.
“We have a big aim as a group.
“The guys who start the season will not definitely be the players who end it.
“We have a long season ahead of us and we have to do better than last year.”
Uwe said his squad had been thin in some areas in his first two seasons at the Club but with the arrival of central defender Ben Nugent on loan yesterday he now had cover in all positions.
Goalkeeper Simon Moore was sold to Cardiff earlier this week and Uwe said that money had enabled him to strengthen.
He said he had been impressed by the form of his players in pre-season and the way they slotted seamlessly in would be a big boost for his side.
“Every player that was involved had the desire to do well,” said Uwe.
“I told the boys that would be our strength this year.
“We have almost every position doubled up; we were thin in some areas in the past years.
“The sale of Simon Moore has enabled us to invest more in the squad and I’m happy with what we have.”
Uwe added tomorrow’s match would show where his team was.
“I am happy now we are through pre-season in a good way,” he said.
“Everyone is fit; we got a morale boosting win at the end.
“It is looking very promising but it counts for nothing.
“Saturday is the measurement.”
