Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said he took responsibility for his team’s defeat against Yeovil Town.
The Bees were beaten 3-1 by the Somerset side last night despite an equalising goal from Clayton Donaldson.
Brentford fell behind after Tony Craig played a ball across his penalty area that was picked up by a Yeovil player and delivered in to the area for James Hayter to score.
Donaldson equalised after half time but Paul Hayes saw a penalty saved and Hayter scored again soon after.
Craig compounded Brentford’s misery with a late own goal.
Uwe said he was not concerned with one point from the opening two npower League One games but admitted it had not been a good start.
He said his double substitution midway through the second half – bringing on Hayes and Harry Forrester for Sam Saunders and Toumani Diagouraga – cost his side.
“I’m not starting to have major concerns two games in to the season,” said the Brentford boss.
“We can say we have had a bad start, two games and one point.
“Today we played a Yeovil team that was compact.
“We just got in to the game and we made a massive mistake.
“It was not only the pass from Tony, we had chances to recover and didn’t.
“After that, there was not too much wrong in the first half.
“We put pressure on them and had enough entries in to the box.
“Maybe the movement from the strikers was not as good as I hoped.
“In the second half, we started very well, got on top of them and got the equaliser.
“With 25 minutes to go I went for the substitution and that was a mistake from me.
“We wanted to play the same shape but we had momentum, we should have scored from the penalty, and I was too adventurous.
“I should not have brought on two offensive players at that point, it was too early.
“Today, I take the blame.”
Uwe said new signings Hayes and Scott Barron, who both signed within the past ten days, would get fitter.
“Both players who joined us lately – Scott Barron and Paul Hayes – have a way to go to catch up fitness wise,” said Uwe.
“But that is normal, and we knew that.
“The only way they will get fitter is to play them.
“Paul Hayes is comfortable in our shape; he played a whole season in Charlton’s Development Team last year at the top of the diamond midfield.
“That could have worked.
“He needs games and good training sessions and we will get him fitter.”
Brentford entertain Crewe Alexandra at Griffin Park on Saturday and Uwe said his team would turn it around.
He said there was not a lot wrong with his team but they had to improve in both penalty areas.
“There is not a lot wrong,” said Uwe.
“We had some massive chances – four or five headers from inside the six-yard box.
“We could not convert them.
“We had enough chances, we missed a penalty.
“We need to find someone who can score from the penalty spot; this is not the first we have missed.
“We didn’t start as well as I hoped but we came in to the game and then shot ourselves in the leg.
“We recovered well, got the equaliser, got the penalty.
“There are crucial moments in football, you have to use them and then the game will go our way.
“If we stick to our principles, we will turn this around.
“We have to stop making mistakes like we did.
“That’s the crucial part.
“We can play well all day long between the penalty areas but if you don’t take chances like penalties and make mistakes like we did, it’s difficult to win games.”
