Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler hailed his players for the way they performed under pressure in the win over Colchester United.
The Bees were a goal down with 15 minutes remaining despite having the better of most of the game.
They conceded a goal from a corner early in the second half but Marcello Trotta, George Saville and Kadeem Harris all scored in an 11 minute spell to give The Bees the points.
Uwe said the introduction of Kadeem Harris and Sam Saunders around the hour mark helped his side and he praised them for never giving up.
“That was like last season and the beginning of this season,” said Uwe, speaking after the match.
“We were determined to never give up and come back in to the game.
“The substitutions helped but all the praise belongs to the team.
“We were under big pressure and they performed.
“We played good football from the beginning, had chances, got punished again when we didn’t have much to do defensively.
“But, they didn’t give up and all praise to the players.
“They stood up like men today.”
Brentford had lost three in a row in all competitions before the win and Uwe praised his side for the way they stuck to their game plan.
Uwe said in the last defeat, against Stevenage last week, The Bees played too much long ball football but they carried on playing the way they wanted against Colchester.
They equalised when Marcello Trotta converted a cross from the right before George Saville scored from 25 yards, Kadeem Harris headed a third to seal the win.
“We chased the game in the right way,” said Uwe.
“We didn’t go long, we still tried to play.
“That was the main difference.
“Against Stevenage we played long ball football, that is not what we want to see.
“We kept the ball moving, had shots from outside the box, put crosses in.
“We scored from a shot from outside the box and from a cross.
“That was the game plan.”
Uwe said he had to make some big decisions in selecting the team for the match.
He asked to be judged on the team he picked and the substitutions he made.
Uwe explained Adam Forshaw was taken off with The Bees 1-0 down because he had been feeling unwell in the build-up to the match.
“I had to make some big calls,” said the Brentford Manager.
“Training was excellent this week, as it has been for the past three or four weeks.
“The players have tried to put themselves in the spotlight and they did.
“I made certain calls and that is what I will be judged on.
“We won the game 3-1.
“Adam Forshaw has been sick; he didn’t feel well on Friday and was low on energy.
“I told him to play as hard as he could because he is so important for us.
“I judged him today and not his previous games.
“There was a reason he came off, people obviously don’t know that.
“The substitutions worked today.
“I think it was the right thing to do.”
Kadeem Harris came off the bench to make his debut 24 hours after joining on loan from Cardiff City.
Uwe said he brought a new dimension to Brentford’s attacking play and his goal, a header from a Clayton Donaldson cross, would give him a boost.
“You could see today, in 20 to 25 minutes, that Kadeem gives us another dimension to our attacking game,” he said.
“That is what we needed and we have been looking for it since Conor McAleny broke his leg.
“That is what we got today.
“The young fella did very well.
“He came on under pressure and showed me and our supporters what he can offer.
“The goal will give him more confidence.
“He will be a useful addition to our squad.”
Brentford’s next match is away to Bristol City on Tuesday night.
Uwe said he was looking forward to it.
“We will do everything right ahead of Tuesday and see how the players have come through,” he said.
“Toumani Diagouraga was left out today for tactical reasons but over the past three or four games has been one of our best players.
“I wanted to play a certain way today and he missed out.
“He will be an option for us on Tuesday, as will others.
“I am looking forward to the next game, coming on the back of a great win.”
