Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler described his team’s 0-0 draw away to Bury in the first game of the 2012/13 npower League One season as a “good point” and a “fair result”.
The Bees kicked off their campaign with a draw in Greater Manchester and Uwe said he was happy overall with the result.
He said both teams could have won the match and added his side were better after half time than before.
“In the first half we invited too much pressure,” said Uwe.
“Bury had two shots from outside the box that were deflected but didn’t create massive chances.
“The midfield was too deep and we weren’t brave enough to attack more.
“We got that right in the second half and for the first 35 minutes of the second half we controlled it.
“Shaleum Logan was bombing on down the right; we knew we could attack their left.
“Scott Barron did the same on the left.
“The last ten minutes, Bury got momentum and had chances.
“Bury could have won the game but so could we.
“It was a fair result.
“We lost our first game away from home 2-0 last season, so this is already an improvement.”
Uwe said his team were good defensively, apart from the last ten minutes when Bury applied pressure.
“I think it’s a good result,” he added.
“It’s always difficult, the first game of the season, but we got the first clean sheet.
“Apart from the last ten minutes, I thought we were very good defensively.
“In the second half we attacked much better, we were much braver, attacking through the wing backs.
“Bury worked very hard and got the momentum at the end.
“They are a powerful team, and that was part of our thinking to play three centre backs.
“Overall, I am happy with the result.
“We came here to get a result and we have to take what we get.
“We got a point today.”
Uwe praised the performance of goalkeeper Simon Moore and said Richard Lee had played as an overage player for the Under-21 side as he continued his recovery from injury.
He added striker Farid El Alagui had not trained much before the match so could only be used as a substitute.
The Brentford Manager revealed he was very hopeful he would add another striker to his squad before his team take on Yeovil Town at Griffin Park on Tuesday.
“Farid only trained on Friday,” said Uwe.
“It was too big a risk to start him, especially with our next game on Tuesday.
“Sam Saunders played as the second striker, with Clayton Donaldson.
“Neither Sam or Clayton got enough support in the first half, it was much better in the second.
“I wanted Farid on at the end, when Shaleum and Scott were putting crosses in.
“He will be available for us on Tuesday night.
“We have promising news about a new striker.
“I can’t make it official as paperwork hasn’t been signed but if everyone keeps their word we will have someone in by Tuesday.”
