Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said some of the football played by his team in their FA Cup with Budweiser win over Staines Town was “excellent”.
The Bees won the First Round tie 5-0 at Griffin Park yesterday afternoon and booked a spot in the Second Round draw.
Alan McCormack scored from the penalty spot early on before Jake Reeves and Kadeem Harris scored in quick succession late in the first half.
Marcello Trotta headed a fourth and Clayton Donaldson scored the fifth in stoppage time.
Uwe, speaking after the match, said after a slow start the game was one-way traffic and his players forced Staines in to mistakes.
Brentford made just two changes from the team which made it four straight Sky Bet League One wins against Crawley Town last week and one of those was due to Harlee Dean being suspended.
Uwe said he wanted to keep the momentum of the season going.
He said his team had a tempo too high for their non-league visitors and he was happy with the day.
“We want to keep our momentum going,” said the Brentford boss.
“An issue for me is keeping players not playing fit, the current starting XI are doing so well.
“After the first ten to 15 minutes, where I was not satisfied, the game was one-way traffic.
“And, especially in the second half, some of the stuff we played was excellent.
“Our pressing was excellent, we forced them in to mistakes, we attacked in numbers and could have had more goals.
“The tempo got to Staines.
“They tried everything; they were very brave in the second half to attack us.
“We looked very strong.
“I am happy with the goals, the way we played and the clean sheet.”
Uwe said his players deserved a lot of credit for the way they played.
He said it was important to get through the tie at the first opportunity but his side provided entertainment in the process.
“The players deserve a lot of praise for today,” said Uwe.
“The way they played and how professional they were.
“They played very well and set a high tempo.
“Everybody that came today was entertained.
“That is the main thing.
“We had to go through today.
“I expected us to go further but all credit to the players for the way we did it.
“The way we passed, moved, scored goals, kept going for the fifth, sixth, seventh, that is what I want to see and that is what our supporters want to see.”
Uwe said in his eyes, the FA Cup was still the top cup competition.
He said he learnt a lot about it as a player when he moved to England and it gave a chance for teams like Brentford to play and nearly beat Chelsea, as The Bees did last season
“There is a lot of football being played, with European games and cup competitions,” he said.
“But for me, the FA Cup is the real cup.
“The beauty of the FA Cup was brought to me very quickly when I came over here as a player.
“I have great memories as a player and great memories as a manager from last season.
“It allows lower league clubs like us, and Staines, to make a name for themselves and benefit financially.
Brentford’s next game is the Sky Bet League One match against Crewe Alexandra at Griffin Park next Saturday.
Uwe said the win over Staines would give his side extra confidence.
“Crewe are a good footballing side,” said Uwe.
“They can hurt any opposition if you let them play.
“We have to work on our pressing; we have been back to our best in the past few weeks.
“We will miss one or two players through international call-ups but if we play our best we have a good chance.
“No game is easy in our league and we have to fight for each inch to be on the winning side.
“Today’s game gives us confidence in terms of style of playing and coordinating play between the midfield and the forwards.”
