Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler described the first half an hour of his side’s 5-1 win over Crewe Alexandra as one of the best since he has been at the Club.
The Bees barely gave Crewe a kick in the opening stages and were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Clayton Donaldson and Farid El Alagui.
Farid made it three before half time and although Crewe pulled one back, The Bees scored two more in the later stages through Harlee Dean and Clayton to take the win.
Uwe said confidence within his team grew after a good start.
“We did exactly what we should do at the start,” said the Brentford boss, speaking to Bees Player.
“We were very concentrated and very clinical.
“When we get two goals up, confidence rises and you see how well we can play.
“The first 30 minutes were one of the best at Griffin Park since I have been here.
“We had 18 attempts at goal today and only five were off target, that’s a fantastic statistic for us.”
Uwe brought Kevin O’Connor in to the Brentford midfield to replace the injured Adam Forshaw.
The Brentford Manager said Forshaw had twisted his back and he did not know how long he would be out for, although he did not expect it to be long.
But he was full of praise for his skipper – Uwe said the captain, playing his 475th game for the Club, sat at the base of Brentford’s midfield and allowed Jonathan Douglas, Toumani Diagouraga and Sam Saunders to influence the game in Crewe territory.
“Kevin O’Connor did very well,” said Uwe.
“In the first half his positional play was excellent.
“He allowed Jonathan, Toumani and Sam to go out aggressively and press.
“That was the key.
“We went 2-0 up and had a fantastic first 35 minutes.
“Kevin is a fantastic player for us, I was very happy with the way he performed.
“One of the three midfield players will always be the deeper one in possession and also shield.
“Kevin is a very smart player, experienced.
“On the ball he played simply and effectively.”
Uwe said he was pleased to see Clayton and Farid on the score sheet and also praised the impact Paul Hayes had when he came on.
“I am happy with all three strikers,” he said.
“Paul Hayes came on and played well.
“I was happy he could get 30 minutes and that will help his match fitness.
“The two lads that played the majority of the game combined very well, worked hard and scored two goals each.
“I can’t ask more than that.
“Clayton Donaldson wanted to prove a point against his former club.
“Clayton always works hard, today he put an extra shift in.
“Farid is a goal scorer.
“We know we will get goals but we have to get the best out of him, we have to get balls in to the box.
“We struggled a bit in pre-season but now we are getting lots of crosses in.
“We need to keep him fit, he needs to adapt to the league, this is a step up.
“He is a great lad and I’m very happy to have him.”
Uwe said his side had a “duty” to try and entertain at Griffin Park and said the best way for Brentford to be near the top of the table was to win their home games.
“It’s important we get points on the board,” said the Brentford boss.
“To climb up the table you need win your home games and win away from home every now and then.
“The majority of wins should come at home.
“We have a points target to reach and how we reach it, I don’t care.
“We have a duty and a responsibility to entertain our supporters.”
