Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler called on his players to produce better performances in their remaining 13 games than they did against Crawley Town.
The Bees climbed to fifth in npower League One with a 2-1 win in Sussex, their third win over Crawley this season.
Uwe, speaking after the match, said he was disappointed with the way his team performed and wanted to put the game behind him.
He said he could be satisfied with the performance in a 0-0 draw with Walsall on Saturday but the one against Crawley was “poor” and the result should not hide that.
“Overall, I’m very disappointed with the performance,” said Uwe.
“We have to look beyond the result.
“We talked about how we played against Walsall, when I was satisfied with the first half and everyone was down because we did not get three points.
“Tonight the performance was poor but we got three points.
“That is football; we have to live with that.
“At times, it was very difficult for me to understand what we delivered on the field.
“The best thing to do is be happy we got three points and move on.
“If we want to do well this season, we have to be much better than we have shown today.”
Brentford were handed an immediate advantage when Crawley defender Mark Connolly was sent off inside the first 45 seconds for pulling back Clayton Donaldson when the striker looked set to score.
The forward, who scored a brace when The Bees beat Crawley in the reverse league fixture at Griffin Park, missed the penalty but scored Brentford’s second just past the half hour.
Sam Saunders, who scored the winner when the teams met in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie in October, had put The Bees in front.
Uwe said his players stopped doing what they had been to get ahead after half time and Nicky Adams pulled a goal back for the home side, who pressed in vain for the equaliser.
“The problem was that we took it too lightly when we had an extra man,” said Uwe.
“We stopped working, stopped doing what had worked well for us in the first half.
“We stopped doing what had got us a two goal lead, and it could have been three or four.
“Our players thought that was enough.
“It has shown that it was not.
“Crawley gave it everything, credit to them.
“All I can say is that I am disappointed.
“Disappointed with how we used the extra man and the mistakes we delivered today.”
Uwe said he should have stopped Clayton Donaldson taking Brentford’s penalty after the striker stepped up in the absence of regular takers Harry Forrester and Marcello Trotta.
He said The Bees could have had another spot kick in the second half when Adam Forshaw was fouled.
However, referee Lee Collins adjudged the Brentford man to have dived and, having booked him in the first half, gave him a second yellow card and then a red.
Uwe said Harlee Dean could have been sent off late in the first half when he put his hands high up on a Crawley player but Adam Forshaw shouldn’t have been.
“It looked like there was contact on Adam,” said the Brentford Manager.
“But it looked like the referee wanted to even it out.
“I saw it on the DVD; it looks like there was physical contact.
“It was not a dive; Adam was running in to the player.
“The referee didn’t have the best day.
“We were lucky in the first half to have Harlee Dean on the field – that could have been a red card.”
