Tyrell Miller-Rodney said he felt he was on course for a hat-trick when he limped off when playing for Brentford’s Development Squad against Millwall yesterday.
The Bees were 2-0 up in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South game in South London yesterday.
Tyrell had scored both goals in the first half and The Bees were on top.
He went down injured early in the second period and Millwall pulled one back while he was receiving treatment.
They went on to win the game 3-2 while he watched from the side-lines.
Tyrell said the injury was sore but he hoped not to be out for too long.
“I was on a roll,” said Tyrell, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“I felt I could get another goal, maybe more.
“I was doing well and it was unfortunate I got the injury.
“I was upset I couldn’t get my hat-trick.
“I also felt I could have done something in the second half to prevent the defeat.
“It’s not great.
“It’s a bit sore.
“The whole leg hurts at the moment but I hope to be playing soon.”
Tyrell is currently on loan at Skrill South Maidenhead United.
He said he had been playing in an advanced role for the Berkshire side and that helped him score his two goals against Millwall.
The first came when Josh Clarke got to the by-line and cut the ball back to Tyrell, who arrived from midfield and fired low in to the bottom corner.
The second was scored eight minutes later when, after a period of interplay, Tyrell let fly from 30 yards and Stephen Bywater was unable to prevent the shot going in to the bottom corner.
“I have been playing in a more advanced role at Maidenhead, getting forward and getting more chances,” said the midfield player.
“Being out on loan has helped me massively.
“I am thriving in that role.
“For the first one it came to me, I check back and I hit it in the bottom corner.
“For the second I just thought I’d have a shot, fortunately it went in.”
Tyrell said it was upsetting to watch Brentford lose their lead in the second half, especially as they were in complete control in the first half.
“Since I have been out on loan I have heard we have done well in the first half but not in the second,” he said.
“We were able to show what we were about in the first half.
“We passed it well and created chances.
“We did really well in the first half.
“It was upsetting to watch the second half.
“We play to win and I wanted to win.
“That is important to take in to the First Team.
“We were so much in control in the first half; I was really upset we lost.”
Tyrell has played seven games for Maidenhead.
He said he noticed a big difference in the football at Skrill South level compared to the Under-21 Professional Development League.
But he added it had made him a better player.
“The loan has been really useful,” said Tyrell.
“Men’s football is so different; the main thing is to win.
“Performance is important but that is second to winning.
“This is a chance for me to show what I have learned.
“It has been really good for me.
“I think I am more aware of the game now, I think my game has gone to another level.
“Hopefully I can push on and go further.
“I want to get back there and play, the injury is a knockback but I will get back fit and try and learn more out there.”
Tyrell’s contract with Brentford’s Development Squad expires at the end of the season.
“My main focus is to try and get a new contract,” he said.
“By performing well I will have an opportunity to do that.
“I am out of contract in the summer and I don’t want to be without a club.
“I will put in as much work as I can.”
