Tyrell Miller-Rodney said if Brentford’s Development Squad had taken their chances against Brighton’s Development Squad last night they would have won.
The Bees drew 1-1 in an Under-21 Professional Development League Two South game on the south coast.
They went ahead inside the first ten minutes when Alfie Mawson headed home a Stuart Dallas corner.
But Brighton levelled late in the first half when referee Andrew Dine awarded a penalty and Courtney Richards converted it.
Tyrell said Brentford could have played better and a draw was probably right but The Bees had the better of the chances and could have won it.
“I thought the performance was OK,” said the midfield player, speaking after the match.
“It could have been better.
“A draw was probably a fair result.
“We did enough to get a draw.
“They edged in on possession but we created the better chances.
“We were more direct tonight; we didn’t pass it as well as we can.
“We did create a lot through being direct, it worked well for us.
“If we had taken our chances we would have won the game.”
Brighton’s goal came when Luke Norris was penalised for holding ben Barclay just before half time.
Both teams sought a winner in the second half but neither could find it.
Tyrell told Bees Player Brentford’s plan was to stop Brighton playing and take control of the match.
“I didn’t think it was a penalty,” he said.
“It was unfortunate.
“It made us a bit downhearted going in at half time 1-1, we edged the first half.
“It was an end-to-end game.
“For the fans it would have been an exciting game.
“Brighton keep the ball well and it is tough for the central midfield players.
“We have to press the ball a lot and stop them having time on the ball.
“Everyone knows Brighton pass the ball well and keep it.
“We had to make sure we got tight on the defensive midfield player, they look to start from there.”
Tyrell completed his scholarship in the summer and signed a one-year professional deal.
The 19-year-old was called in to the First Team squad for the first time when he was a substitute for the Capital One Cup tie against Derby County.
Tyrell said Manager Uwe Rösler is very clear with the younger players about what they need to do to become regulars at that level.
“I was ecstatic to be called up,” he said.
“I didn’t expect it given the year I had last year.
“I didn’t play because of injuries.
“I made sure I worked hard in pre-season and put in good performances.
“I got my rewards and a place on the bench.
“The gaffer gives young players chances.
“He tells us to perform well in these games.
“There is a lot of feedback.”
Tyrell said he had “loved every minute” of his first season as a professional and wanted to get a run in the Under-21 side.
He added he would go out on loan and play First Team football at a lower level if that is what the Club wanted.
“I have loved every minutes of the season so far,” he said.
“I want to work my way through, get in to the First Team and see what happens from there.
“It would be good to get out on loan and get First Team experience.
“Hopefully I can get a regular run in the Under-21s and see what happens from there.”
