One volunteer overcame nerves to play his part in the local community and has been recognised for his effort. Karol Filipczak has shown dedication and commitment as a volunteer for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust. And that dedication was recognised with an outstanding contribution award at the end of the season.
Karol, a 23-year-old criminology student, admitted that 'nervous' was just one feeling he had when he joined the Trust as a volunteer. But he showed a natural flair when he started to mentor young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through community sport sessions and mentoring initiatives, he has supported a number of young people across West London.
Karol joined the Trust last October and has accumulated more than 110 volunteer hours. But his efforts are not as a sports coach, he mentors young people that might be physically inactive, on the edge of care or have a physical disability. He offers support and advice along with signposting them to health and sport sessions.
Being a Type One Diabetic means Karol knows first-hand the difficulties young people can face. Yet, instead of it becoming a negative part of his life, Karol has channelled his own adversity in to helping others. Well done Karol.
