Tony Craig praised Brentford for a “good away performance” as they drew 0-0 against Sheffield United.
The Bees picked up a point at Bramall Lane last night and Tony, speaking after the match, said Brentford dictated play.
He said Brentford played some good football but did not have the rub of the green in front of goal.
He said Sheffield United defended well and it was unfortunate that Brentford could not break them down.
“We know this was a good away performance,” said Tony.
“We dictated play, apart from a five minute spell.
“It’s another point to the tally and we move on to Saturday.
“We played some nice stuff, we had some good shots.
“Every time we had a shot it seemed to not drop for us or go straight at the keeper.
“You have to give them credit, they defended very well.
“They knew what was coming, had a bank or four and a bank of five.
“It was one of those nights where it was unfortunate that it didn’t drop for us.
“We knew what was coming; we knew we had to break them down.
“We were unfortunate that we couldn’t.”
Brentford dominated most of the game.
They had a series of chances but could not find a way through.
There was also a controversial moment when Marcello Trotta got away from the home defence in the inside right channel and burst in to the penalty area.
Kieron Freeman lunged in with a tackle as the striker prepared to pull the trigger and the Brentford man went down.
Referee Eddie Ilderton, who was well-placed to see if the defender had played the striker before he got a clear foot on the ball, pointed for a penalty and sent the Sheffield United man off.
He then spoke to assistant referee Mark Dwyer and changed his mind, recalled the defender, now in the mouth of the tunnel, and gave a drop ball.
Tony said the moment had passed and Brentford had to move on and praised the defensive performance.
He added fellow central defenders Harlee Dean and James Tarkowski, who had both played with Tony in recent weeks and together in a draw at Oldham last weekend, meant The Bees had three good players to fill the role.
Brentford have kept clean sheets in six of their past eight games.
“It seemed tonight that our attacking was when they tried to use their attacking strength,” said Tony.
“We defended well.
“We had so much play going forward that you have to stay switched on.
“I was talking to James, Jake Bidwell and Alan McCormack to stay switched on.
“Thankfully we did that.
“I pride myself on clean sheets and we are on a rich run of form as a defence.
“We have three very good centre halves; we know what it means to play for this club and whoever plays will thoroughly enjoy it.
“Clean sheets are good but three points are more important.”
Brentford are second in Sky Bet League One, five points ahead of third-placed Leyton Orient, who have played one game more.
The Bees have two home games coming up in the next seven days, against Notts County and Crawley Town.
Tony said it would be good to get back home after three straight away games.
“You go up on your home form,” he said.
“We have two home games coming up and we are looking forward to them.
“We have been away for five days.
“It has been a long time; I am looking forward to seeing my family.
“We can’t do anything about tonight so we look forward to Notts County on Saturday.”
Tony had words for more than 600 supporters that made the trip north on Tuesday night.
“The supporters have been superb,” he said.
“We know it isn’t cheap with tickets and travel.
“We appreciate the support.
“Hopefully they will be there on Saturday.”
