Thomas Frank wants his side to ‘be absolutely on it’ against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Frank stressed the need for a bright start at the Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford look to build on their impressive recent form that has seen them earn 10 points from their last four Premier League fixtures.
“Like every other game, we want to win,” Frank told the gathering media at his pre-match press conference.
“I said to the players that this is a big, big game for us.
“When you beat [Manchester] City, West Ham and Liverpool the expectation will always rise, that’s natural, but we need to go out there and top perform.
“Every time we’ve faced Bournemouth it’s been very, very difficult. Tight games.
“Gary O’Neil and his coaching staff have done a very good job, so I expect a very difficult game.
“We need to attack and we need to be absolutely on it.”
The reverse fixture at the Vitality Stadium was a game of very few chances, and Frank revealed that he had re-watched the goalless draw this week.
“It was a very tight game,” he continued.
“If there was a narrow winner it should have been us, but it easily could have been Bournemouth that took the three points.
“It was a good reminder for us that every game in the Premier League is so tight, so difficult.
“If you look at Premier League experience, they have more than us.”
Brentford have beaten Manchester City and Liverpool in recent weeks, and the head coach wants to see the same application against Bournemouth on Saturday, who travel to the Gtech Community Stadium following five straight defeats in all competitions.
“For most teams that have been promoted – or only in their second season in the Premier League – facing the big clubs is still ‘wow’ in a way,” said Frank.
“Maybe you give five per cent more, maybe. But I hope that we give the same against Bournemouth that we would against any team. That’s certainly what we’re preparing for and that’s the message that we’ve got across to the players.
“Every game is so tight – the difference between teams is so little – so the big message this week is that we need to be on it.
“We’ll do our very best to attack and come out very intense tomorrow.”
