Adam Forshaw said Brentford’s performance in their Sky Bet League One win against Crewe Alexandra was, particularly in the first half, one of the best he has been involved in.
The Bees won 3-1 in Cheshire on Saturday with Adam scoring the third, a 35-yard effort that flew in to the top corner.
Alan Judge scored Brentford’s first two goals, from a combined distance of approaching 50 yards, and although Crewe pulled one back from a disputed penalty, The Bees were in control.
The match was Brentford’s first for two weeks after recent postponements and Adam’s first start since January 1, although he had come off the bench against Shrewsbury Town at the start of February.
Adam said the Brentford players could not wait to play and he personally was looking forward to it.
He added the only possible criticism is that the win should have been more conclusive with the chances Brentford failed to take.
“A lot of lads couldn’t wait to get a game,” said Adam, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live.
“Although I came on against Shrewsbury, I haven’t really played for six weeks.
“I was really looking forward to it.
“The lads were the same with games called off.
“The first half was probably some of the best football I have been involved in since I have been here.
“We have some really talented footballers and when we pass it like that I don’t think anyone can live with us.
“We have to stick to what we know, try to pass the ball well, we will be alright.
“Over the past two years the only criticism is not converting chances.
“Our general play is pretty good I think.
“If we took more chances they wouldn’t have had a sniff.
“I thought the penalty was harsh but it could have been five or six before that.”
Adam played down his strike but said Brentford’s style of play, pushing teams back, gave room for midfield players to take shots.
“I have had a problem that has restricted my striking the ball and having shots,” he said.
“With the rest, it felt good today.
“I was taking more shots.
“The ball came to me, my touch wasn’t great, it wasn’t really out of my feet.
“Luckily it went in the top corner.
“I don’t know how far out it was.
“The way we played we pen teams back.
“The midfielders help the centre backs and if balls do drop on the edge of the box, there is more time to pick a shot.”
Brentford went in at half time 1-0 up but in complete control.
Adam said they expected Crewe to attack after the break but two goals early in the second half made the game safe.
He added Crewe’s penalty, awarded for handball against Clayton Donaldson, was soft.
“We expected them to give it a real go in the second half,” said Adam.
“We had to weather that, luckily we got the second goal.
“That settled us down and I thought we played some really good stuff after that.
“We deserved our goals.
“After the third it was a case of how many.
“They got a soft penalty and maybe we should have scored more.”
Brentford are now unbeaten in 19 Sky Bet League One matches and have won 16 of them to climb to the top of the table.
Their next game is against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are second, but Adam said nothing would change.
“Next week will be the same as what we have been doing,” he said.
“We don’t want to change anything, it’s working.
“We want to take one game at a time.
“We know we can beat anybody at home.
“We have to approach it like all our other games.”
