Stuart Dallas said he wanted to apologise on behalf of the Brentford players to the supporters for the performance in the defeat to Colchester United yesterday.
The Bees were beaten 4-1 in Essex yesterday afternoon and Stuart said no fan should have to pay to watch what was served up.
He added they had to put it right against Stevenage next week, the final game of the Sky Bet League One season.
“We apologise to the fans for the performance,” said Stuart, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“They shouldn’t have to pay to watch that.
“I am speaking on behalf of every player.
“We have to put it right next week and we will.”
Brentford effectively lost the game in the later stages of the first half.
They conceded two goals around the half hour and then a third soon after.
Stuart pulled one back but Colchester sealed the game with a fourth in the second half.
The winger said the players were devastated with the performance and result and had not seen it coming.
“We are disappointed,” said Stuart.
“Anyone not disappointed after that is playing the wrong game.
“Everybody is devastated.
“The fans have come in a party mood and we have let ourselves down.
“The only good thing is we can put it right next weekend.
“We will make sure to put on a show next week.
“No-one saw it coming.
“We are the only ones who can put it right.
“The gaffer has said everyone is disappointed and rightly so.
“Next week we will put it right.”
Stuart said Brentford had not eased off for the match, despite having already sealed promotion from League One.
He said the players let themselves down.
“We have earned promotion and have deserved it over the season,” he said.
“Every game is the same; there are three points up for grabs.
“Today was no different.
“We have let ourselves down and have to put it right.
“The fans will turn up and we have to put on a show.
“The good thing about football is that it is never too long to the next game.
“We have one game left and even though we are promoted, it is still three points and we will go to win it.”
Stuart’s goal came in first half stoppage time.
He picked up a Clayton Donaldson lay-off, after Jonathan Douglas had dummied, and lashed in from 20 yards.
Stuart said even at 3-0 down he thought The Bees could get something from the game but they did not create much with their pressure.
“I don’t remember much about the goal,” he said.
“I was confident that we could get back in to it.
“Even at three down I was confident.
“We are just really disappointed with how it went.
“After half an hour it was 0-0 and we were comfortable.
“When we went down I was confident we could get something but it didn’t go to plan.
“We put on pressure without creating clear cut chances.
“It is just disappointing and we have to put it right next week.”
