In support of this massive national campaign, Hounslow Stop Smoking Service is encouraging smoking residents in Hounslow to join thousands of smokers across the country to take up the 28 day smokefree journey and stop smoking during October.
Hounslow Stop Smoking Service have kick started this campaign, continuing to raise awareness of this initiative through campaigning across the borough. As part of this outreach activity, they have now partnered with Tesco Extra in Osterley to hold a promotional campaign in front of the Store on Wednesday, 14 October.
This event is open to all residents in the borough, and will run from 10am to 4pm. This is a great opportunity for all smokers to have their lung age test and CO reading and also to assess the Carbon Monoxide poising and Tar building caused by smoking, which results in compromised lung efficiency and breathing difficulty.
In addition to this, there will be information on how to stop smoking and information on the free support offered by the local NHS Stop Smoking Service. There will also be other services available on site to help you with living a healthy and safe life, including:
Hounslow Stop Smoking service is offering people who live or work in Hounslow the chance to win an iPad. Just attend the event on 14 October and set up your quit date between 1 and 31 October to enter the scheme.
Date: 14 October 2015
Where: Tesco Extra, Osterley Park, Syon Lane, Isleworth TW7 5NZ
Time: 10am to 4pm
Ven Chennubotla, Stop Smoking Specialist said: “The event will be a great opportunity for smokers to get a health check and gain a better idea about the damage caused by smoking. Smokers will be able to have a lung age test and their CO readings assessed, along with assessments of carbon monoxide poisoning and tar build-up caused by smoking – which results in compromised lung efficiency and breathing difficulty.
Frank Simms, Chief Executive Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “If you are a smoker, stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your health, which is why we’re really pleased to be supporting Stoptober this year. Research shows that stopping smoking for 28 days means you’re five times more likely to stop for good so Stoptober is a great place to start. Anyone who comes down to the Hounslow stop smoking services health promotion day will receive free advice and support to help them take the first steps to going smokefree.”
Paul Plant, PHE London’s deputy director for health improvement, said: “We support Hounslow’s work helping people to quit smoking. Although smoking prevalence is falling across London and is currently at 17 per cent, it still remains the most important cause of preventable ill health and premature mortality in the UK. The 2014 Stoptober campaign saw almost 30,000 Londoners turn their back on cigarettes and we hope that even more Hounslow residents will get involved this year by visiting the launch event or searching online for Stoptober and signing up online.”
