Youth Team defender Seth Owens believes there is a great mood in the Youth Team dressing room following the 2-1 over Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
James Ferry’s brace secured the points for Jon De Souza’s side who held off a late rally from the visitors to extend their lead over the third places Addicks to seven points.
For Seth it was a well-deserved win and one that was built on The Bees passing game and a solid defensive effort.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Seth said: “The mood in the dressing room is bright and happy.
“Coming out of the game with three points I think we did very well.
“I thought we dominated all the possession in the first-half.
“Second-half they started to play longer and we had to deal with it more.
“It was a 50/50 game but we came out on top.
“It was hard for us to play out because they were playing a high press as well.
“Them going longer made us drop deeper and they kept pressing us.
“I thought the boys were terrific defensively.
“Myself and Audrius Laucys put our bodies in front of the ball, Tom Field put in some great headers and Jeremiah Kamanzi was cleaning up everything.
“Over the past couple of games we haven’t been dominated physically but today we had a challenge.
“I thought we rose to it and did well.
“We had a great desire to hang on to the three points and we made sure we won every ball.
“Seika Jatta and Zain Westbrooke had chances late on and if we could have got that we would have been comfortable.”
With the way that Brentford players throughout the club are encouraged to play out from the back there is a lot of responsibility on Seth to start attacks from deep.
The 16-year-old said that he enjoyed that responsibility especially as the Youth Team coaching staff show such belief in he and his teammates’ ability to play from deep.
“The coaches have told us to be confident getting the ball at the back,” said Seth.
“Even if we make a mistake we have to have the confidence to do it.
“If they believe we can play out from the back they have confidence in us on the ball.
“If we can play out from the back our possession will be higher and we will be able to keep the ball.
“We have to get on the ball quite a lot.
“We know we are a possession team and we have to have the ability to pass it and keep it.”
Saturday’s result meant it is now one defeat in seven for the Youth Team and they maintain a three point lead at the top of the table.
With such a great run of form Seth believes confidence within the Youth Team group is only going up and up.
Next up for the Youth Team is a league visit to Swansea City before an FA Youth Cup trip to Hull City and Seth believes neither of these trips should hold any fear for The Bees.
“We are doing terrifically,” said Seth.
“We are still top of the league.
“Our style of play is improving every week and we are getting better.
“We have been getting good results the last few games and our confidence is rising.
“We don’t get that much competition football so the FA Youth Cup is a great chance for us to show how good we are.
“Our confidence is going to be high and other teams are going to be scared of us because they see that we are winning.”
Seth has cemented his place at the heart of The Bees defensive line this season making 13 appearances in the league so far this campaign.
As a first-year he has been alongside experienced centre-backs Gradi Milenge and Audrius Laucys so far this season and he said he has learnt a lot from them this campaign already.
“As I have been picked every week my confidence is going sky-high,” said Seth.
“It has made me feel better as a player and made my game improve.
“Gradi Milenge and Audrius Laucys are terrific centre-backs.
“I watch them and learn off them and try and apply that into my game.”
