After another run of five matches in 17 days The Bees had only one league fixture to negotiate in early October before another International Break rolled around.
The end of September had seen Mark Warburton’s side lose three of their last four matches but October started with a well-deserved three points at home to Reading. Goals from Jota, Alex Pritchard and Jonathan Douglas saw The Bees record a third home win in four matches with a 3-1 success over The Royals.
After the Reading game two members of the Brentford squad were selected for international duty. Will Grigg was called up to the Northern Ireland squad for two Euro 2016 Qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Greece. The striker was not involved in the 2-0 home win over the Faroe Islands and was then an unused substitute in their 2-0 win away in Athens that left them top of their group with maximum points. Also called up for International honours was Alex Pritchard who was selected for the England Under-21s two-legged Euro 2015 Play-Off against Croatia. Alex wasn’t involved in the First-Leg, a 2-1 win at Molineux, and was an unused substitute for the second-leg which saw The Young Lions qualify after another 2-1 win.
Early October also saw Brentford Women’s FC made progress in the FA Women’s Cup with a 9-2 win over Hemel Hempstead in the First Qualifying Round. However they would get no further after that as they were beaten 5-4 by Long Lane in the Second Qualifying Round despite leading 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3.
In Academy news Ross McMahon was called up to a Scotland Under-16 Training Camp ahead of the Victory Shield. It was announced that a Brentford Under-16 team would travel to Barcelona later on in the month to take on the Spanish giants in a friendly. A young Brentford team went out of the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup in the First-Round after a 4-2 defeat to Hayes and Yeading United, Danny Parish and Luke Dunn the Brentford scorers.
Brentford’s Youth Team slipped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat away at Huddersfield Town in the U18 PDL Two. The Bees were never at the races and conceded early on in both halves, with the points being wrapped up in injury time. Jeremy Steele left his position as Brentford’s Youth Team manager after nearly two years in the job. Despite the upheaval the Youth Team bounced straight back to winning ways with a 4-1 home win over Leeds United at Jersey Road thanks to a Bradley Clayton double and goals from Tom Field and Reece Cole.
The Development Squad’s struggles continued as they went down 2-1 at Griffin Park against Huddersfield Town. Sylvain Ebanks-Blake had The Bees in front but two goals in two minutes from Joe Wright and Flo Bojaj secured the win for the visitors.
The Bees celebrated their 125th Birthday on 10 October. On Thursday 10 October 1889 a meeting was held at the pavilion of the Oxford and Cambridge public house, close to Kew Bridge, and it was decided to create Brentford FC.
There was great news on the player front as Sam Saunders returned to training after ten months out with a knee injury while Emmanuel Oyeleke rejoined Aldershot Town on a three month loan deal.
