June was a month of ins and outs at Griffin Park as The Bees geared up for a second consecutive season in the Sky Bet Championship for the first time since the 1950s. Following the departure of Mark Warburton, and his subsequent appointment at Rangers FC, The Bees turned to Dutch Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his Assistant Roy Hendriksen to take over the reins at Griffin Park. They were joined on the coaching staff by experienced Norweigan Flemming Pedersen who became the Head of Football Philosophy and Player Development. There were additions on the field as well with Ryan Williams joining from Morecambe and young French defender Yoann Barbet signing a four-year deal from French Ligue 2 side Chamois Niortais. Going the other way were the out of contract duo of Alfie Mawson and Nick Proschwitz who joined Barnsley and SD Paderborn 07 respectively.
Despite it being the summer break there were still a number of Bees involved in international action over the course of the month. Moses Odubajo helped England’s Under-20s to a Fourth Placed finish in the prestigious Toulon Tournament while young goalkeeper Nik Tzanev created history with New Zealand as they qualified for the knockout stages of the Under-20 World Cup for the first time ever. Stuart Dallas earned his fifth Northern Ireland cap in the 0-0 draw with Romania which kept Michael O'Neill's side on track for European Championship qualification. Daniel O’Shaughnessy featured for Finland’s Under-21s and Kyjuon Marsh-Brown saw his 2018 World Cup dream stay alive as Antigua and Barbuda beat St Lucia over two legs to advance to the Third Round of qualifying.
Wednesday 17 June saw one of the most highly anticipated days of the Football calendar as the Football League fixtures for the upcoming season were released. The Bees would start their campaign with a home game against Ipswich Town, who had also made the Play-Offs the season before, and there were also derbies against Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, and Charlton Athletic to look forward to. The Capital One Cup threw up a home tie against League Two side Oxford United.
