With the start of the 2015/16 season fast approaching Brentford were busy putting their squad together for the new campaign in July. Austrian midfielder Konstantin Kerschbaumer signed from Admira Wacker while young German midfielder Jan Holldack agreed a two-year Development Squad deal. The Bees defensive options were strengthened as Danish International defender Andreas Bjelland crossed the English Channel to join from FC Twente for a club record fee. Also heading west was Josh McEachran who made the six mile journey from Stamford Bridge to Griffin Park on a four-year deal. The month came to a close with two strikers joining in two days. Firstly German Under-21 International Philipp Hofmann put pen to paper on a three-year deal from 1.FC Kaiserslautern and he was joined 24 hours later by Danish international Lasse Vibe who left IFK Goteborg for Griffin Park. Leaving Griffin Park in July were promotion winning captain Tony Craig who rejoined Millwall after three years in West London and Will Grigg who signed for recently relegated Wigan Athletic.
July also brought about the start of pre-season with the squad returning to training in West London before heading out to Portugal for a week of warm weather preparation ahead of the new campaign. Goals from Jermaine Udumaga, Andre Gray, and Jonathan Douglas guided The Bees to a 3-0 win over local side SC Farense and that was the scoreline when Marinus Dijkhuizen took charge of the Bees in their first game on English soil away at Boreham Wood, Andre Gray netting twice in the win over the Hertfordshire side. Jermaine Udumaga’s late strike wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat in a behind closed doors friendly against an experienced Tottenham Hotspur side. Fellow Premier League side Stoke City were comfortably beaten 2-0 at Griffin Park, Andy Gogia and Stuart Dallas on target, before Luton Town got the better of The Bees in a 2-1 win at Kenilworth Road at the end of a busy month, despite Philipp Hofmann getting his first goal in Brentford colours.
The Development Squad began their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win away at Hampton and Richmond Borough, following it up ten days later with a 5-0 success over Biggleswade United. Isthmian Premier League side Staines Town would however prove too strong for Lee Carsley’s side after a 3-2 win at Wheatsheaf Park. In the younger Academy age-groups it was a mixed month as the Youth Team beat Sheffield Wednesday in Portugal to bring home silverware but the Under-15s struggled to a tenth placed finish in the Dale Farm Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.
Off field matters saw the supporters that loaned money to Bees United to enable the Brentford Supporters’ Trust to complete the acquisition of the majority shareholding in Brentford FC paid back after an agreement between Matthew Benham and Bees United. There were also a number of additions to the coaching and backroom staff as Rob Rowan, Bartek Sylwestrzak, Gianni Vio, Paul Williams, and Tom Bates all started work at Jersey Road.
