Scott Hogan felt that every single Brentford player did their job this afternoon as The Bees came away from The AMEX Stadium with the three points after a 2-0 win. The frontman became the first player to score against Brighton at home this season when he finished calmly just before the half hour and he grabbed a second after the break to secure a first away win of the season for Dean Smith’s side. Speaking to Bees Player after the match, Scott felt it was a great team performance and one that fully merited the three points.
“When we spoke before the game the gaffer’s first words were that he fancied us today,” said Scott. “They are strong at home but it is a long, wide pitch that suits what we want to do. Every one of us turned up today. We have threatened to do that in spells this season and it came together today. It was an efficient, quality performance on and off the ball and I felt comfortable throughout the game. There were a few of us who were tired when we came off but that is what warrants a win. Today I thought that we played the right ball at the right time. When we didn’t play it we moved it and moved it. To a man we played the right option at the right time.”
Aside from his goals, Scott had a number of other chances to extend The Bees advantage as he kept David Stockdale in the Brighton goal busy all afternoon. While the 24-year-old was pleased with his brace he felt he could have had more and praised the attacking trio of Lewis Macleod, Romaine Sawyers, and Josh Clarke for the service they provided him.
“There are three or four lads in there who have that creative spark and it is going to help us in the long run,” said Scott. “They created a lot of space for us today and we picked the space up and played well. I have always said that I am going to get four or five chances a game and I am confident of scoring half of them. I have had four really good chances today and I scored two of them. I am disappointed because I should have scored more. It is not a bad return if you get four chances a game and score two. I have been a bit quiet in the last couple of games but it came right for us today. We can’t rest on that, we have to push on and if we play like that in 80 per cent of the games we have a great chance of being top six or top two.”
Today's double moved Scott top of The Bees goalscoring charts for the season with three goals from six league games. By his own high standards the striker feels that he should have more goals this term but he is happy with the start the team has made.
“It has been an average start to the season for me personally,” said Scott. “I probably should be on about eight or nine goals by now if I am being honest. That is my expectation and I like to set high standards for myself because if you don’t set high standards you are never going to get near anything. It has been a good start for Brentford and it is, without a shadow of a doubt, something that we can build on.”
