Brentford striker Scott Hogan has had surgery after suffering a second serious knee injury in eight months. Scott picked up the left knee injury during training last month.
He had been working his way back from reconstructive surgery on a knee injury he picked up last August, a league match against Rotherham United. Scott had the surgery on April 29 and now faces a prolonged period of time on the side-lines, although he is already working hard towards his recovery.
Neil Greig, Brentford FC Head of Medical, said: “Scott is now four weeks into his recovery from surgery and the surgeon is very happy with his progress to date. The first six weeks of Scott's progress will be relatively slow as he has some restrictions to the range of movement and to the weight that the knee can tolerate during that period.
“This is normal procedure following this kind of surgery and a conservative approach will pay dividends as we move forwards.
“Scott is currently undertaking a four week period of his rehabilitation at the Isokinetic Clinic on Harley Street, which is a specialist sports medicine centre catering for both the general public and elite sports people alike. We felt that it was important for Scott to have continuity of care and facilities during this stage of his recovery, particularly given that the Training Ground is undergoing works over the close season period.
“Our Club Doctor, Matt Stride, is based at Isokinetic and will oversee this period of Scott's recovery along with our physiotherapy staff. The prognosis for Scott's full recovery from this injury is very good and despite our initial disappointment we are now fully focussed on returning him to action in the safest possible timescale.
“However, injures to joints that have been previously injured often require a longer period of time to heal, and with that in mind the surgeon is predicting a 12-month period of recovery for Scott. Whilst this period of time may appear like an insurmountable obstacle to most, we have already begun the process of setting short and medium-term goals with Scott, which will ensure that his focus is maintained as he strives for his return to full fitness.
“Scott has already shown incredible desire and attitude since his original injury; it's because of this I can say with absolute confidence that he will overcome the challenges faces in coming months.”
