George Saville said he thought Brentford deserved to win their first game of the 2013/14 Sky Bet League One season.
The Bees left Vale Park with a point in a 1-1 draw despite dominating most of the match.
Shaleum Logan put them 1-0 up against Port Vale, who were promoted from League Two last season, but the hosts equalised.
Brentford had all the chances in the second half, hit the crossbar and forced numerous last-ditch blocks but could not force the winner.
George, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said he felt he grew in to the game and was disappointed not to have won.
“It was a good opener,” said the young midfield player, on loan from Chelsea.
“It was a lively first 20 minutes; I felt I grew in to the game.
“I think we should be disappointed we didn’t get three points.
“As a team I thought we deserved to win.
“We played well.
“We created a lot of chances and it’s disappointing not to take the points.”
George said Brentford’s players could expect to hear all about Shaleum Logan’s goal but could not complain if he keeps smashing them in from 22 yards.
The midfield man added the goal his team conceded, scored by Doug Loft after Brentford had failed to clear firstly on the left and then when the cross came in, was disappointing.
“It was a good goal from Shay, we worked it well,” said George.
“We should have dealt with their goal a little better.
“There was a block and they got the second ball, which was disappointing.
“We will learn from that.
“I’m sure Shay will tell us all about his goal, he loves to talk.
“But if he scores goals like that, we can’t complain.”
George said he felt Brentford’s fitness was on show at Vale Park.
He said The Bees moved up a level after half time and should have won the game.
He said overall there was lots to be positive about early in the season.
“First half was fairly even but in the second half we stepped up another gear,” he said.
“Our fitness came through.
“We created more chances and should have won the game.
“We have had a good pre-season, we have worked hard.
“The fitness showed, they couldn’t cope with our strikers.
“Lots to be positive about and we will move on.”
