Ryan Woods was disappointed to see victory snatched away from Brentford late on this afternoon but admitted that The Bees were lucky to still be in the game after a poor first-half display against Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls had by far the better of the first-half but fell behind when Lasse Vibe picked Keiren Westwood’s pocket to net nine minutes after the break. The Bees had to withstand plenty of pressure late on, especially following Vibe’s red card which made it ten-apiece after David Jones’ earlier dismissal, but looked like they had survived until Sam Hutchinson’s injury time header levelled matters.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match, Ryan said: “We all know that we weren’t good enough in the first-half and we were lucky to still be in the game. We came out second half and we were a lot better. It was good closing down from Lasse Vibe to put the pressure on the goalkeeper, luckily it has gone in the net. It’s a real shame we couldn’t hold on at the end but sometimes it’s one of those things. We got in their faces a bit more in the second-half. We showed them too much respect in the first-half and didn’t press as we have been so far this season. We took advantage of still being in the game but unfortunately we couldn’t hold on.”
The draw means that The Bees have seven points from the opening five matches of the season and sit in mid-table going into the international break. Ryan said it has been a decent start to the season for the team but feels there is lots more to come.
“We look really solid at the back and hopefully we can start to take a few more chances at the other end,” said Ryan. “It has been an ok start for us. We have won two, lost two, and drawn one. We can be quite pleased with how it has gone but we can also look at the games that we haven’t won and be disappointed that we haven’t got more points on the board. We will take the positives out of our start, move on after the international break next week and go again.”
Ryan has been an almost ever present since joining from Shrewsbury Town last September, missing just one league match since his move. The 22-year-old has been really pleased with how life at Griffin Park has started but said he is taking nothing for granted and wants to add more to his game.
“I am really pleased with the way that things are going for me at the moment,” said Dean. “When I first signed here it was all about playing games and that was the most important thing. I won’t say that I have nailed a spot down but I have become a regular over the last 40 games and I would like that to continue. I need to keep working hard in training and keep working hard on the pitch and hopefully get better. I would like to add goals and assists to my game but I am pleased with the job that I am doing for the team right now and hopefully that can continue.”
