Ryan Woods is really pleased with how his debut season in the Sky Bet Championship has gone after he netted his second goal of the campaign in Brentford’s 4-1 victory over Milton Keynes Dons this afternoon. Goals from Sergi Canos and Lasse Vibe had The Bees 2-1 ahead before Ryan made it three late on with a 25-yard effort that defeated Charlie Burns in the home goal. Jake Bidwell added a fourth in the dying minutes to propel The Bees into the top ten and relegate MK in the process.
Ryan told Bees Player after the match that he feels he has adapted well to the demands of the Championship and there is still more to come. “I am delighted with the goal,” said Ryan. “A lot of the lads are saying that the keeper could have done better but I will take them as they come. We changed it around at the start of the second half and I went inside. I felt like I got a bit more joy in there and started to enjoy it in the second-half. I feel like I have adapted well to the new positions. I have played quite a few games on the right-hand side now and I am coming to terms with that.
“Everyone knows where my preferred position is but I am happy to do the job for the team and we are getting results which is the main thing. I am really pleased with how my season has gone after a difficult start with not playing and then making the mistake on my debut. I have played a lot of games and I feel that there is still a lot more to come from me. Fingers crossed that will happen to me next season.”
The Bees were always comfortable and in control against Karl Robinson’s side from the moment that Canos levelled Nicky Maynard’s early opener. The victory, a fifth in six matches, moved Brentford up into the top ten. Next up is a trip to Play-Off contenders Hull City and Ryan sees no reason why The Bees can’t carry their form into that match and pick up another three points.
“It felt like one of those end of the season games at the start and their goal gave us a bit of a kick up the bum which we needed,” said Ryan. “It was a great goal from Sergi Canos and we came out and performed a lot better in the second-half. We are in the top ten now and we want to stay there. Hull City is another new stadium for me and I am really looking forward to it. I am looking forward to it on Tuesday and hopefully it can be another three points. I was looking at the form table yesterday and we are fourth. We are on a really good run of form the minute and hopefully that can continue.”
With all the ups and downs this campaign, added to the long injury list the side have had to contend with, Ryan believes that it would be a great achievement if The Bees could finish the season inside the Sky Bet Championship top ten. The former Shrewsbury Town midfielder feels that things are coming together at the back end of the season and that bodes well for next year.
“It is massive for us, the club, and the fans,” said Ryan. “After an up and down season where some results haven’t gone our way we can hold our head up high and look forward to next season if we finish in the top ten. There has been a lot of talk about how bad the season has been but we have put a really good run of results together. If we can finish in the top ten then we can be pleased with how the season has gone. You can see the way that we are performing and coming together as a group. We are organised and we look like a threat going forward. It is really pleasing to see and hopefully we can carry that momentum into next year. It is nice to have the break but three or four weeks in you can’t wait to go back to football.”
