Ryan Williams said he was delighted to be offered the chance to join Brentford.
The 24-year-old attacking midfield player signed a one-year contract at Griffin Park last week, with a Club option for a second year.
Ryan left Morecambe at the end of the 2014/15 season and admitted he was surprised to get a call from Brentford.
He said he knew there was interest from Sky Bet Championship clubs 12 months ago but a season playing less football than he would have liked meant it had gone quiet.
When he got an offer from Brentford, he knew he wanted to join.
“I was a bit surprised at first,” Ryan told Bees Player last week.
“I knew there was interest from clubs in this league 12 months ago but it had gone quiet.
“I was delighted to get the phone call.
“Everyone knows Brentford is a club moving in the right direction.
“It became apparent when speaking to the people in charge that they know where they want to take the Club.
“I had a good feeling when looking around and I wanted to be a part of it.”
Ryan came through the youth ranks at Chester City and was in the match day squad in the Football League for the Welsh border side when he was just 17.
After Chester’s relegation and liquidation, Ryan played for Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and Welsh Premier League outfit Rhyl.
He joined Morecambe in 2012 and scored six goals in 61 games for the Lancashire side before leaving at the end of the season.
“I signed for Morecambe from non-league and it went well,” Ryan explained.
“The last 12 months just went a bit sour.
“That is part and parcel of football.
“You have to stay strong mentally at times like that and keep improving and progressing.
“An opportunity has now presented itself.
“Once I knew Brentford were interested, there was only one place I was going.”
Ryan said he always believed he could play in the Championship and wanted to be at a club like Brentford that bring players through from lower level clubs.
He said working with new Brentford Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen was also a factor in his decision to come to TW8.
“You have to keep the mentality of where you want to go,” said Ryan.
“I always believed I could reach this level.
“I look at Brentford over the past few years and they have a track record of bringing lads from the lower leagues and doing well.
“It is a perfect fit for me.
“Having a new Head Coach was a factor in my decision.
“He will bring a wealth of ideas and it is an opportunity for me to get better.”
Ryan said he felt his game might be better suited to the Championship than League Two, where he has been plying his trade.
He said there would be fierce competition for places in the Brentford team but the philosophy at Griffin Park would be good for him.
“I am a forward-thinking midfield player, I like to get my shots off,” said Ryan.
“I am a set piece specialist, it is fair to say.
“I am enthusiastic, I like to get around the pitch, get forward and get in to the box.
“I have good delivery.
“I think this level might suit me.
"In League Two there is a lot of long ball.
“I like to get on the ball and make things happen.
“Sometimes in League Two you get a wet and windy Tuesday night and teams smash the ball as far as they can.
“I have watched a lot of the Championship and there is more playing on the floor.
“I looked at Brentford’s philosophy and that suits me perfectly.
“Part of the attraction is to improve and have competitions for places.
“The competition will be fierce here, you have to be at the top of your game to get a shirt.
“This is a competitive environment, that is what I want, I am an ambitious player.”
