Youth Team striker Bradley Clayton said it was a deserved victory for Brentford as they put a run of three straight defeats behind them with victory over Ipswich Town.
Bradley was the star of the show as he scored two and set the other three up in The Bees biggest ever win in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
For Bradley it was pleasing to right the wrongs of last week’s 5-3 defeat away at Colchester United and to get on the scoresheet himself.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Bradley said: “We really deserved that victory.
“We didn’t have the best Florida and when we came back we were sloppy against Colchester United and had five put past us.
“To put five past someone was very nice.
“We had the right mentality, we got at them from the start and we wanted it more than them today.
“It was a big change from last week.
“I could have scored more last week so to be ruthless in front of goal is nice.
“It was a good day at the office but I am still searching for that hat-trick in the Youth Team.
“As a striker you just want to score goals.
"To get two today was nice but I am still chasing that hat-trick.”
After conceding 12 goals in their last three league and cup games Bradley said the whole team could be proud of the effort they put in to keep a clean sheet.
The Bees restricted Ipswich Town to only a handful of chances and Cameron Greaves was only seriously called into action on two occasions.
Bradley said there was a real desire, after conceding five last week, to keep a clean sheet and it was a team effort to make sure that happened.
“It is always a positive to keep a clean sheet,” said Bradley.
“Letting in five last week is not what we want so to score a lot of goals and keep a clean sheet is not what we want.
“You could hear people on the pitch saying that it was time to get the clean sheet once we had scored.
“Everybody wanted the clean sheet and it looks good on the whole team and solidifies our performance.
“We have been creating tons of chances but not creating as much as we would like.
“We knew that eventually it would all go right and we would create a lot of chances and hammer someone.”
Bradley has been employed in a number of roles this season as the Youth Team have adapted their formations.
Saturday’s match at Ipswich Town saw him play as a loan striker in front of three attacking midfielders.
Bradley said that playing up front is a role he enjoys as he feels it brings the best out of him in an attacking sense but also allows him to press high up the pitch.
It was that pressing which resulted in the opening goal as Bradley forced home goalkeeper Nicholas Hayes into a mistake which was pounced upon by Makhosini Khanye.
For Bradley Saturday’s opening goal shows the importance of pressing and why he is happy to do such a thankless task.
“I have been playing 10 a lot recently but it was nice to change,” said Bradley.
“I do enjoy the role up front because it lets me be a threat in behind.
“Zain Westbrooke playing behind me is very good on the ball and he likes to play through passes.
“We were able to combine well and with Makhosini Khanye and Kyjuon Marsh-Brown we have good tricks and skills on the wings.
“It was good going forward and it worked well.
“I couldn’t imagine not running and pressing.
“I enjoy it and it is what I would do if I had a team.
“You get games where you press every ball and you don’t get anywhere near it.
“Today showed that you can get five or six goals a season just from pressing.”
Saturday’s results meant that The Bees maintained top spot in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
Jon De Souza’s side sit four points clear at the top of the table ahead of Charlton Athletic in second and Swansea City in third, both of whom have games in hand on The Bees.
With the top two qualifying for the end of season play-offs Bradley is hopeful that he and his teammates will make the end of season showdown.
While Bradley is keen to play up with the Development Squad he says it would be a great achievement if he stayed with the Youth Team to help them secure a first league title.
“We heard coming into the game that they could go ahead of us with a win,” said Bradley.
“It is really important to beat a close rival and stay up there.
“It would be incredible for us to win the league.
“We didn’t have a good season last year and we have never won the league.
“If we could win the league it would help all of us.
“It is coming up to professional contract time so if we could win the league it would get more people recognised and that will get more contracts.
“Everyone in the dressing room should be looking to go up to the Under-21s.
“I am looking to impress and play up but if I don’t I still want to win the league.
“That is everyone’s aim in the Youth Team.”
