Brentford’s latest summer signing, left-back Rico Henry, said that rejoining former boss Dean Smith was one of the big things that persuaded him to swap Walsall for West London. The 19-year-old defender penned a five-year contract with The Bees earlier today and told Bees Player that he couldn’t wait to get going at Griffin Park.
“I am excited to be at Brentford,” said Rico. “I have worked with Romaine Sawyers and Dean Smith before so I am excited to meet the lads. Dean helped me to break through and he is the one who gave me a chance and he gives me loads of confidence when I am playing. I have been at Walsall for nine years now so it is difficult to leave but I am excited to move on.”
Rico was part of the Walsall team that beat Brentford 1-0 in last season’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Griffin Park. The England Under-19 international said he has good memories of playing at Griffin Park and is keen to show the home fans what he is about.
“I played here in the FA Cup,” said Rico. “It is a good stadium, a nice pitch, and I am looking forward to playing in front of the fans. I like to attack and I feel I am a solid defender. I also like to have link-up play with the players around me.”
