A late Kasey Clifford screamer was not enough to see the Women's B Team leave Bedfont Sports Club with a share of the points, as East London Ladies came out 2-1 winners on Sunday afternoon.
Following a comfortable 4-1 victory in their last outing, making it two wins out of two games in the Greater London WFL Division One North, the Bees were looking to carry this momentum into the match against East London Ladies.
They got off to the worse possible start however, as after just five minutes Brentford found themselves a goal down after the visitors were awarded a free kick just outside the box.
East London’s number 16 curled her set piece precisely into the top corner, leaving Emily Boycott with no chance, forcing the hosts to hunt for an equaliser after the first few minutes of the game.
Despite some nice passages of play, Brentford struggled to create any real clear cut chances with the away team looking solid in defence.
The best chance of the first half for the Bees came through Abigail Claringbold on 43 minutes, but her shot from 18 yards went just over the bar.
The second half proved to be just as frustrating as the first for the team, with the East London back line showing no signs of becoming weaker as the game went on.
After keeping Brentford out for the majority of the game, the visitors grabbed their second on 60 minutes after their captain played a long pass over the top of the Brentford defence, allowing their number 11 to run onto the ball and eventually chipping over Boycott, who came darting off her line attempting to close the angle.
Now 2-0 down the hosts had to go all out in hopes of getting something from the match, Holly Hawkes showed signs of creativity, but the final ball seemed to be costing Brentford from producing a goal scoring opportunity.
Clairingbold came close again on 80 minutes with Hawkes’ cross finding the number 24, but the pace on the ball made it difficult for the striker to direct her effort towards goal.
The home team did eventually score through an exquisite 30-yard strike from Clifford whose shot flew straight into the top corner on 90 minutes.
Despite this, it was too little too late as the full time whistle blew moments after, seeing East London Ladies leave Bedfont Sports Club with all three points.
Following the result Brentford B Team Manager, Tommy Ryan-Maynard and his Assistant, Charlotte Tanner, gave their thoughts on the game.
Ryan-Maynard explained: “I think lots of the girls did put in a shift and the subs made an impact trying to get the team going to push for a goal, but we just ran out of time in the end.”
“I want us to get back to the basics and start looking after the ball better, some passes weren’t up to scratched today so this is something I want to work on.”
Tanner added: “In spells we did okay but we weren’t up to scratch from what we have seen during pre-season and during the last two matches, but we will brush this one off and go again next week.”
