A Kasey Clifford double followed by goals from Abigail Claringbold and Holly Hawkes saw the Bees put four past AFC Leyton at Bedfont Sports Centre on Sunday.
After a disappointing result last weekend, it was important for the Women’s B Team to get back to winning ways in the Greater London WFL Division One North.
Right from the off the hosts dominated possession looking for an opening to create a goal scoring opportunity, this didn’t come easy though as Leyton sat in a low block and looked to frustrate the Bees.
Despite this, the defensive style of the visitors allowed the Bees to play a nice passing style of football, but the final ball seemed to be the only thing missing as they looked to break down their opponents.
Following huge amounts of pressure, the home team eventually took the lead on 37 minutes through Clifford.
The Brentford attacker ran onto a cross field pass which landed on the right side of the Leyton box and her powerful half volley clipped the far post before finding the back of the net.
Although Brentford controlled possession for the first 45 minutes, they went into half-time only one goal up and possibly feeling frustrated that they hadn’t already put the game out of sight after some nice spells of play.
The B Team’s second half performance was much more empathic however, on 64 minutes Brentford were awarded a penalty after the Leyton goalkeeper attempted to clear a cross but instead collided with Chloe Kaur Boparai.
Clifford stepped up and placed her penalty down the middle making it 2-0 and getting her third goal in her last two appearances.
The game seemed to become more open for the hosts after their second and the visitors were becoming irritated by their lack off attacking threat. Brentford keeper, Emily Boycott, had very little to do during the game and was able to watch her teammates continue to press the Leyton defensive unit.
With 15 minutes to go Claringbold made it 3-0 as a reward for her hard work, the striker’s pressure forced the Leyton defender into making a weak back pass and was able to latch onto the loose ball and bundle it in despite pressure from the opposition’s keeper.
Hawkes sealed the victory for the Bees just a few moments later as she ran onto a through ball finding herself one on one with the Leyton keeper, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Following the 4-0 win, Brentford Manager, Tommy Ryan-Maynard gave his thoughts on the game.
He said: “I am really happy with the performance, our defending was excellent and the back four stayed concentrated throughout, our midfield was brilliant as well and implemented some of the things that we have worked on in training so that was great to see.
“It was nice to see us become more prolific in front of goal also, we could have scored more but the girls took their chances well when they came.
“I am really proud of the team, they conducted themselves in a fantastic manner in what turned out to be quite a physical game.”
