Brentford B’s Ryan Trevitt says the side can take some positives away from their pre-season encounter with Fulham Under-21s last weekend.
The young Bees took on our West London neighbours in what was an entertaining fixture as Fulham edged it 5-4. The performance showed some glimpses of brilliant play and Ryan says the side are aware that as they continue to settle and progress, they will pick up more clean sheets in the coming weeks.
He explained: “I think we had some nice play and scoring four goals is a positive. You just can’t give away five goals so there is a lot to work on still so we need to try and keep clean sheets.
“There is a transition period when new players come in and players go so we need to work on that. As new boys come in they will get a grasp of things and we will be back where we were at the end of last season.”
Despite being disappointed at conceding, Ryan was keen to note that everyone in the group is working hard to build bonds with new players settling in and everyone is pushing in the same direction.
“Neil (MacFarlane), Saunds (Sam Saunders) and Purds (James Purdue, B Team Head of Athletic Performance) push us really hard,” explained Ryan. "Everyone knows you have to work hard otherwise you will come off. Players are always working hard, we just need to focus in those moments where we’re giving away easy goals. We’ll keep looking to play good football, like we did in spells here because there was a lot of attacking play. There were a lot of positives so we just go back to the training ground and work hard.”
Having netted in the match from the penalty spot against Fulham, Ryan added to his goal and assist earlier in the week against Arsenal with the First Team group. The young midfielder is now looking to continue his good form.
He said: “I need to get as many minutes as possible, stay as sharp as I can, and when I get the chance to train up I have to try to impress. It’s about working hard and staying at it so hopefully I can get some more opportunities.”
