Jake Reeves said the fruits of Brentford's work on the Training Ground were on show on the pre-season win over Hampton and Richmond Borough.
The Bees won 5-0 against their Ryman League neighbours on Wednesday night with Jake setting up the first goal for Alfie Mawson.
Stuart Dallas made it two before trialists Rowendy Schoop and Leon Redwood got on the score sheet - Myles Weston scored Brentford's other goal.
Jake, who captained Brentford's first half team before a less experienced XI appeared for the second half, said Hampton could not live with Brentford after the first goal.
"I thought it was quite good," said Jake.
"I think we tried to overcomplicate it for the first ten to 15 minutes, we let them get a foot in and get close.
"After the first goal, I don't think they could live with us.
"We just had to do things we had done in training, do things right.
"You could see some of the things we had done in training."
Jake said he was pleased with his performance against Hampton at the base of Brentford's midfield and said his hard work had paid off.
He praised the work of Harry Forrester, Stuart Dallas and Emmanuel Oyeleke, who were in front of him in Brentford's diamond formation.
"I was pleased with what I did," he said.
"I worked hard before I came back and I have worked hard in pre-season so far.
"I am trying to implement in to the pre-season games that we have.
"There was a lot of space.
"After the first goal, I don't think they could cope with Harry, Manny and Stuart.
"They sat off me a bit more and I can benefit from that.
"I had so much time and space and gave it to the players, I know what they can do.
"That role suits me down to the ground."
Jake's performances in pre-season in the summer of 2011 earned him a run in Brentford's First Team at the start of the 2011/12 season.
He said he was aiming to do the same this summer.
"Once you get a taste of First Team football, and then get taken out, it's a blow," said Jake.
"Every player wants to be in the First Team.
"Pre-season has been hard but it's going well.
"This gives you a base level of fitness, it's very important.
"There is a good atmosphere around the place.
"Personally, I need to take my opportunities whenever I play in pre-season or in the First Team.
"I need to give the gaffer [Uwe Rösler] a headache so he has to pick me."
