Adam Forshaw said he was “over the moon” after Brentford clinched promotion from Sky Bet League One.
The Bees secured a place in The Sky Bet Championship with a win over Preston North End on Good Friday.
Speaking after Brentford drew 2-2 with Milton Keynes Dons yesterday, Easter Monday, Adam said it was a special feeling to have done it with three games to go.
He added the players were determined to keep pushing in the two games they now have left.
“I was over the moon,” said Adam, speaking to Bees Player.
“We were so close last year and to do it this year in style was a real credit.
“It was nice to not take it to the wire.
“To get it done was special.
“We won’t relax but can try and express ourselves.”
The game at MK, which ended in a 2-2 draw, came 72 hours after promotion was secured.
Adam said it was not difficult to get up for the game and the players were disappointed they did not win.
The Bees took a 2-0 lead in the match – James Tarkowski scoring at the end of the first half and Clayton Donaldson in the second – and Adam said to concede two late goals felt like a loss.
“I don’t think it was difficult to prepare,” said the midfield player.
“This was a game of football and we all want to do well.
“We are all winners.
“We are all sat in there disappointed, it feels like a loss.
“We are promoted but are disappointed.
“We should have won the game.
“We want to finish the season well and that is the way we have to look at the last two games.
“We want to win games.”
Adam said Brentford were sloppy at the end but controlled the game for large periods.
Brentford scored when MK goalkeeper David Martin dropped an Alan Judge corner and James Tarkowski lashed in.
Adam set up the second for Clayton Donaldson and said Brentford Manager Mark Warburton gave him the freedom to get forward and set up goals.
“There was maybe a bit of tired legs at the end,” he said.
“We will also hold our hands up, we were a bit sloppy.
“But for large periods of the game, we were totally in control and played some good stuff.
“We got as bit of luck for the first goal and we have to take it.
“I believe it evens itself out over the season.
“We have been unlucky with a few things.
“We went in with our tails up, came out second half and got the second goal.
“I like to get assists and try to be involved.
“Mark Warburton allows me to do that.”
MK got back in to the game with a penalty awarded by referee Tim Robinson when he adjudged David Button had fouled Izale McLeod.
The home then got an equaliser in stoppage time.
“David Button made a good tackle,” said Adam.
“There might have been a shout before that but David was booked, so the referee got that one wrong.
“We went sloppy, there are no excuses.
“We have to look at it and put it right.”
It was the final game of the season for Adam, who had surgery on an injury.
The midfielder, named League One Player of the Season, said he was really pleased with his campaign.
“That was my last game,” said Adam.
“I will have an operation in the morning and hope to be back for the start of pre-season.
“That is it done and I am really pleased with how the season has gone.
“The aim was achieved, we can’t win the league but promotion was the main aim.
“It has been a great achievement.”
Adam had words of praise for the Brentford fans.
“The support has been brilliant,” he said.
“We could hear them from start to finish today.
“They were singing everyone’s names, even some of the staff, which I could hear.
“The support has been fantastic, we can’t fault it.”
