Alex Pritchard said Brentford deserved their pre-season win against OGC Nice.
The on-loan attacking midfield player scored two goals in the victory.
Andre Gray put The Bees in front very early on but Nice equalised.
Alex curled in a free kick and then scored at the second attempt after The Bees had pressed Nice in to a defensive mistake.
The midfield man, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, completed 90 minutes, one of seven players to do so.
He said it was needed at this stage of pre-season.
“The last ten or 20 minutes was a bit leggy but the boys needed 90 minutes,” said Alex, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We can freshen up for Tuesday and go again.
“I am still getting to grips with things here.
“We played some great football against a very good team today.
“We are building up.
“The team played really well.
“We were sloppy at times but that is tiredness, we still have two games to go.
“We have been working hard and it came together.”
Alex said Nice played some good football and provided the sort of test Brentford needed.
“You need to play teams like this,” he said.
“Nice came here and played good football and we needed to experience that.
“We played some good football and I think we deserved the win.
“Nice played out like we played out.
“They took risks and so did we but it’s pre-season, that happens.”
Alex played down being a set piece expert and said it came from working on it.
He added Brentford were still learning to play together and had to judge when to press to force mistakes, as lead to the second goal.
“It was brilliant to score, especially the free kick,” said Alex.
“I knew what I had to do with it; the keeper wasn’t even looking at the ball.
“I had to get it over the wall.
“I practice and work on free kicks and it just happens.
“We pressed them in to mistakes and that lead to the third goal.
“You can’t press all the time but we got our rewards.
“We have five new players so are still gelling.
“We pressed well and when one goes we all go.”
Alex has only been at Brentford a week but is happy so far.
“I am enjoying every moment,” he said.
“I am still fitting in and getting to know the staff but I am enjoying it so far.”
