Brentford’s attacking midfielder Ian Carlo-Poveda scored but couldn’t prevent England’s 4-3 Under-16s defeat to Japan in their opening match of the Tournoi International in France on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite being two goals ahead from Austin Samuels and Jadon Sancho, Japan scored twice to level before Poveda scored to put England ahead in the 47th minute. However, Japan scored two late goals to win.
England will play their second match this afternoon, when take on the Netherlands in Boissy Saint Leger, near Paris.
