Brentford defender Moses Odubajo admitted he can’t believe that The Bees have made the Play-Offs after finishing fifth in their first season back in the second tier since 1992.
A 3-0 final day victory over Wigan Athletic, coupled with defeats for Ipswich Town and Derby County, meant The Bees leapfrogged the pair into the Play-Off positions.
Moses felt that as the season went on he and his teammates became more confident that they had the abilty to do something special this season.
The defender said that The Bees had defied the odds once this season and there was no reason that they couldn’t continue to defy the odds now they are in the Play-Offs.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match against Wigan Athletic Moses said: “I still can’t believe that we finished fifth.
“It is credit to all the lads and the manager who has backed us throughout the season.
“I am really proud of everyone and we deserve it.
“None of us truthfully expected where we are now.
“As the games went on and we played against bigger teams, we realised that we are not much off what they have got.
“There were times where we have drawn and we feel we should have won.
“That shows how far we have come and hopefully we can do it again in the Play-Offs.
“Before the match I didn’t think too much about other results, I just focussed on us winning, playing well and scoring which we did today.
“Everything that went on elsewhere was a blessing in disguise.”
Brentford’s place in the Play-Offs was secured thanks to a first-half goal from Alex Pritchard before Mark Warburton’s side added two more goals in the second-half.
Firstly Moses’ through ball found Jota for the Spaniard to stroke home from 12 yards before Jota turned provider for Andre Gray to fire home.
Moses felt it was a very good all-round performance against The Latics and he was pleased with the goals and a second consecutive clean sheet.
With Brentford’s progress into the Play-Offs dependant on results elsewhere Moses said it was important that The Bees focussed on what they had to do.
“They played a system that made it difficult for us to defend against,” said Moses.
“We had to show our quality on the ball which I think we did towards the end of the first-half.
“I felt that we dominated throughout the second-half.
“Scoring a goal is always uplifting and to see out the win with a clean sheet is always good for the defence.
“The manager told us to keep going at half-time and not to worry about results around us.
“The fans were going to react as we were playing but we needed to keep our head down and focus on our job which was to win.
“It is always a positive for me and the team to set up a goal.
“We needed goals because it could have come down to one goal between us and Ipswich Town.
“The atmosphere was unreal today and we took it that we were doing something well for them to be cheering.”
Brentford have home advantage in the first leg of the Championship Play-Off Semi Final as they host Middlesbrough on Friday.
While the England Under-20 international feels it is important to enjoy the moment of reaching the Play-Offs they need to switch on quickly to prepare for the visit of Boro on Friday.
“You have to enjoy tonight but there is a limit because the game is on Friday,” said Moses.
“The game is coming round fast so we have to prepare for Middlesbrough.
“Throughout the week we will work tactically on how to play against Middlesbrough.
“As long as we play well on the day that is all that we can do.
“It is always good to end on two clean sheets and that helps us mentally.”
