Orla McComb made her First Team debut against Hackney Ladies on Sunday afternoon coming off the bench and scoring the winner on 87 minutes.
The Women’s First Team were left frustrated for large periods of the game as they came up against a side who were sitting one position above the relegation zone in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North.
Speaking on the match McComb said: “It took us a while to grow into the game, Hackney came here to disrupt how we normally like to play and sat deep making constant clearances, but we did well to keep pushing.”
The defender was introduced to the game on 70 minutes with the Bees still looking to break the deadlock despite controlling possession throughout.
“I don’t think I played unbelievably when I came on, I have to admit I was slightly nervous but minute by minute I started to become more comfortable, and I really enjoyed being out there.”
The Bees left it late but finally got their goal on 87 minutes and it was McComb on her debut with the finish.
After being awarded a free kick on the right side of the pitch, substitute Jodie Reid delivered a deep cross into the far post towards Regan Graver whose touch put the ball into the path of McComb leaving the defender to tap home into an empty net.
Talking on her goal she said: “It felt amazing, I don’t often score being a defender so to get a goal on my debut was an unreal feeling, it’s hard to put into words how great I felt when the ball went into the back of the net.
“I just managed to be in the right place at the right time and I’m glad that I could help the team get all three points after a tough afternoon.”
McComb went on to talk about what went into her decision to sign for the Bees this season.
“I felt it was the right step for me, I liked the look of the club and how they were set up, I have been training with the girls for a while now and they have helped me settle in so I’m thankful of that.
“Karleigh and Sean are great coaches and I feel that I have already learnt so much from them and I can’t wait to continue to get more opportunities to play for the club.”
