Brentford B winger Michael Olakigbe is focused on working as hard as he can as he aims to continue his positive run of form.
Having signed for the club in the summer the youngster recovered from injury and has steadily progressed since making his debut in October last year. The 18-year-old has scored three goals in three games and having netted two stunning goals against AS Monaco on Wednesday, and Olakigbe believes the side were well worth their win.
He explained: “I’ve got three goals in three games this year so I’m looking to keep working hard and keep pushing forward.
“It was a great win. 4-1 against a very good side and I’m buzzing about the football that we played. We attacked well, defended well, and got a great win. The kind of football that we play, with a lot of confidence. For me, I went out there with no fear and took on board the information that I had, and it was a great finish.”
On the two goals from the right-hand side, Olakigbe says the set up within the B Team is helping him to go into the games with self-belief.
He continued: “I had the beating of the full back and every time I got on the ball I was looking to attack. The coaches give me the confidence, they gave me a boost of energy to put away the second goal. I got two cracking goals, both in the top corner, so I can’t complain!”
“Neil (MacFarlane) and Saunds (Sam Saunders) told us before the game that there will be spells where they have the ball so we had to get tucked in and be in a mid-block as a team, but we stuck together and when they had the ball for spells we were switched on and when we got the ball we could create chances on the turnover.
“It’s a great club (AS Monaco), who have developed so much talent. For us to come here and beat them is unbelievable so I’m happy for myself and the boys.”
