Norwich would have been hoping to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking but fell short and did not make the top six. They had won promotion in 2015 but were immediately relegated, largely thanks to a run of eight defeats in nine in early 2016. They were one of the favourites for promotion last term and started the season as such. They were top in mid-October but the cracks were starting to show.
A defeat at Newcastle United – when they conceded two injury time goals – showed a weakness and in late October they started a run of five straight losses that became eight defeats in ten. They tried to regroup and changes manager in March but eventually finished in eighth, ten points outside the top six. Their problems largely came away from home where The Canaries won just five games and none between 1 October and 4 February. Scoring goals was not a problem – Norwich hit 85, no team scored more – but their defensive record of 69 conceded was the third worst in the division.

The Manager
Norwich appointed Daniel Farke as their new Head Coach in late May. The 40-year-old joined the Norfolk side from Borussia Dortmund II, the reserve side of the German giants. He had previously managed SV Lippstadt 08, where he spent much of his playing career. Farke was brought to Norwich by Sporting Director Stuart Webber, who held the same job at Huddersfield Town before joining The Canaries and had previously taken David Wagner from Dortmund to the Championship.
Farke spent much of his playing career with Lippstadt. The forward had three spells with Lippstadt and also played for Wilhelmshaven and Bonner SC among others. He managed Lippstadt for six years before joining Dortmund. He had 18-months with Borussia before heading to England.
